water leaking from a small pipe?

hi just thought i would post this

i think since decat i have a water leak can not be 100% sure its since i have de cat pipe fitted.i have checked upper radiator pipe was tight.it is a constant dripping when engine warmed up.

i got under car and found it to be comming from a small 5" hose next to the altanator. i dont know if it has blown itself off somewhere.looks more like some sort of expansion pipe.it stops after you turn engine off or when you open the rad cap.seems like some sort of pressure thing.i was thinking it could be crap in the radiator, could i buy some sort of flush for the radiator system like you get for engine oil prior to oil change.its loosing water so keep topping it up,just bugging me as to what it can be?

is it easy to do radiator flush.i want to book my car into chris wilson next week if he is free to get egt probe fitted in correct place and buy front or maybe both of his decat pipes.i have a second cat replacement pipe. and have fuel checked out too.is there anyother jobs i could get done while i am down there.i could do with an autobox oil change too.

thanks in advance for any help or info

i will email chris now see if its ok to book in for next thursday onwards as i have 8 days off work

hi eyefi the temp stays at normal even if you boot it

on my mk3 supra turbo had a problem with water pissing out of a fine hairline crack at top of radiator, that was loosing a lot of water.went to a few radiator places to ask them they were all saying a new radiator job,one bloke said if i was you i would start with the cheapest things, he told me to check the thermostat, had it checked and it was no good got a new one and it cured it for 14 quid.

if this radiator was no good i would buy a fulidyine one

mine is coming out of a pipe constant dripping

i will get chris to have a look at it for me

i have had a look under car and there is a overflow pipe of some sort

also when car is on my fan is on all the time?

its always been like that as far as i can remember

what kind of price is a new water pump if thats what it is.and any idea why it would go,could it be increseased boost pressure?

thanks

You can have my old water pump if you need it...though is a long arsed job to change it.

The Fan is directly driven by the engine...so if the engine is on so is the fan...there is an additional fan at the bottom on the right as you look at the front of the car, which only comes on when it gets too hot.

If the pipe is about 5" long then I would assume its the Turbo feed/return...take it off and check it for leaks away from the car (you can bung the ends if you're concerned about loosing coolant).

Make sure all the connectors are still round and not bent out of shape...If the pipe is not knackered and the connectors are in good nick then I would suggest claping them with Jubilee Clips instead of the ones Toyota use.

If its not the rubber hose is it the one with a couple of electrical contacts screwed into it? Post a pic to help us know what you are talking about.

IMHO opinion if you car has done over 60,000 miles or been around for over 6 years then you should take a weekend out to thouroughly flush the system and clean out all the nasty sludge that can build up in your rad and pipework. I only hope that By doing that you won't have to go through my saga!

I finally get my new rad tomorrow!!!! Horay!!!!

thanks for the replys

and it looks like a 5" rubber pipe

had it in bits today seeing if i can see where it goes

took induction kit out and dumpvalve and all of intercooler hard pipe kit

it needs a good clean and putting back

the pipe is close to the altanator, was thinking of taking radiator out.started to look at how it comes off it dont look that hard. its got the main engine fan on and to the side near battery it has 2 electric fans. also has one in front of the radiator too

it started to get dark so left it till morning.

thanks for the info alex will check turbo side tommorow

a few weeks ago i was stripping some pipes off to clean but did not take any pipes off the turbo unless it has blown off. i have hit 1.5 bar since decat and need to sort it out

going to chris wilson next thursday to get 2 downpipes and my egt probe fitted in correct location, also getting fueling checked.

will get some new rubber piping and start changing the toyota ones that look a bit worn.

thanks again

just want to get it sorted out before i go to drag strip again

what rad have you bought a toyota one or a fluidyne radiator

what sort of price are they?
