tbourner
Does anyone fancy a weekend camping at the Victory Wheelers show this year? There's some info on the site: http://www.victorywheelers.co.uk/ It's FRI 8TH - SUN 10TH JULY 05. If anyone's been before you'll know it's steadily growing and there are now regular 1/4 mile runs arranged by Straightliners. I've emailed the group because I was unsure if we would be welcome there, fair enough as it's always been for American/Custom/Classic cars, but this is the reply I've just recieved: Hi Trev, There is no problem with pre-entering and coming for the weekend (and of course racing!) however the Sunday line up is for older classics and Americans only, so you would not be eligible. What we may be able to do is to put a small display of your cars in a separate area, perhaps on the road up to the dragstrip. We don't encourage modern stuff as we don't want the Hot Hatch boys turning up. As your cars are in a class above that we can probably accommodate you, much as we did with TVR's last year. I would say about 10 would be the maximum number of cars we could accommodate. Regards, Mick. I'm deffinitely going, I've just got to persuade Zoe to camp overnight!!! Even though I live about 15 mins away!!! I'll be there with a few friends from work who build rods as well. So there are 10 ish places available if you've got £20 (per person - 1 car per entry) spare. Would be cool to get some quick 1/4 runners up there, maybe some single supes to show the classics that we're not just regular 'modern cars'!! Put your names down if you're interested, the pre-entry form is on the website for download. 1. Trev and his missus. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Miguel
Looks like a fun day that .. Wonder who won out of these 2 last year
tbourner
That Bentley was cool, had a race with a chav type (wearing a cap too!!) bodykitted Golf or something - blitzed the chav easily and in complete silence!! BTW can a mod change the name of this thread to Victory Wheelers not Victory Wheels!!!
Miguel
Was the Bentley towing that same carvan ( looks like it in the photo) when he wasted the golf ...sorry hijacking a bit.
tbourner
Naa the caravan is the straightliners caravan with all the 1/4 mile processing stuff in it. I'm sure if Dude comes he can put in a good 1/4 mile with trailer!!
tbourner
Is nobody interested in this then? You'll need to pre-enter quite early for a place. We could also go on a couple of cruises around Hayling Island and other nice places!! 1/4 mile runs on Saturday before the visitors arive on Sunday, then more 1/4 mile runs to show off to them!! A weekend of fun!!
Elliot
Can you go up there anytime then? I'm only asking as I've never done a 1/4 mile & would like to get some runs in if I did go!
Jake
I'd go for the drag racing but I wouldn't want to camp there as I only live 10mins away. So it's £20 to get in and each person can race? Or is it extra to race? A few of us went to this in Sep 2003 : Me, Matt Harwood, John K, Gavin L, others. It was good fun but last year they started getting fussy about what cars could and couldn't run. Seems like you've sorted that out now. Elliot
I wouldn't want to camp either - don't have a tent, don't have a sleeping bag & only live 20 minutes away! Wouldn't mind a quarter mile blast though
tbourner
If you're not camping then you can only go on the general public day which is the Sunday. I think it was something like £7 for entry to the show, or if you wanted to do the 1/4 it was I think £15 for entry and as many races as you want. Anyone can do the 1/4 on the Sunday, there were all sorts there last year (as seen by the pic above!!). But I think you need a fire extinguisher, a radiator catch tank and a helmet if it's convertible (maybe aero as well?). Not sure how strict they are. There were some monstor cars there last time, and it's an army base so there's no noise restrictions or anything.
JohnK
Jake when we went it wasnt the american show, which was what people attended last year. It was just a straightliners 1/4 mile event, I would only be interested in another of those as ques were minimal, this show looks like it will be another day sat in a que, just like pod on a busy day
Jake
Ah yes, you're right John. I'd forgotten about the difference between 03 and 04. Shame they don't just do another drag event, the short queues and as many runs as you want was great.
JohnK
At the time there was talk of them makeing it a regular event. Dont know weather it was lack of interest or what but it seemed to die a death. We need a decent event in the central south!
tbourner
That IS what this is, but you have to pre-register for £20 per person (not a lot I didn't think) and do your 1/4s on the Saturday. You could just pre-register, go on Saturday and do some 1/4s, go home, and come back on Sunday if you want and see the show which will then be free (as well as parking on the strip up to the drag to show off ) because you've already paid. How much is pod for unlimited runs?
JohnK
iirc pod is £25. Any ideas what numbers they are allowing on the saturday? The event I went to before had very few people running, at a guess id say around 50 and I never had to wait more than 5 mins for a run, at times runs were almost back to back, unlike pod! tbourner
I'm actually not sure of the price TBH, because the 1/4 is run by Straightliners which is a seperate thing to Victory Wheelers. So you might have to pay £20 privilege to enter the show (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), and an additional however-much-it-is for the 1/4 mile runs - think it was £15 last year but don't know cos I didn't do it!! It might be that it's all included though - I'll ask. As for runs, the Sunday is for everyone - probably what you're thinking about, lots of hot hatches and stuff, queueing all the way down the runway, everyone and his dog wants a go!!! Which is why I'm suggesting pre-registering and going for the weekend, apart from it being a pretty cool show anyway (can't help thinking we're letting the side down - we only had 8 Supras at the Fairmile BBQ last year - smallest turn out of all!!), plus you get to do the 1/4 on the Saturday which will be PURELY for pre-entrants, ie: only the people in the show, some will be out cruising, some will be sitting around, some will be dragging. Apparently the strip is pretty empty until you want a go!!
tbourner
Got my pre-entry ticket yesterday - number 180!!! Get entered now if you want some cheap 1/4 mile runs with no chavs getting in the way!! (might get some rods and/or big yank V8s to run against though - scary!!). tbourner
I knew this forum were proud, but jeez!! C'mon there aren't that many cars there that will beat you on the 1/4!! At least if we can get some big single turbos there we will do alright against the majority of yanks!! It's a laugh anyway they won't take the piss too much when they wipe the floor with us!!!! tbourner
The other thread: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=40155 I'm gonna try and find out more from straightliners about prices. Anyone in the south - why don't you want to come? Scared? Too expensive? Busy that weekend? Can't be bothered? Don't want to be seen with American cars? I'm confused, this event is cool!!
