Learning my car failed the MOT, visit thread please if you have any ideas on major high emission fixes/tests :music: I had a chat to one of the guys there.. He was saying that if uprated the power etc in my car, in the end I would have to have a mapping for performance, and then a second mapping just for MOT tests..

Is this really true? Anyone had to do this.. Oh and he slagged off forums then advised me to think about twin turbos for an upgrade, not a single, as they are too much power at once for a road/street car..

On a scale of 1 to 10.. How much is this guy shoveling?

Need to know, as he wants me car back on Wednesday to test this running rich problem and emissions stuff, so I would like to try and find the problem myself, without him getting his hands on it again if he sounds full of it.

Nope.

Reading between the lines, computers scare him :) Still, if he can find out all the info contained on this site without using a forum, fair play

Apparently he doesn't know all the info on this site without using a forum :D

The average 6/10.

Well, if he doesn't need any help from forums then he'll know all about the O2 sensor diagnostic check ;)

He said that the car may have a fuel enrichment device on it somewhere, possibly added as a mod
I want one then I only need to buy 95 at the pump.

Sounds like he is a real expert;) I say 9.5/10 so help and advice wont come cheap as it will take him 5 times as long to sort it out as someone who knows what they are doing.

As soon as you have to start tell someone what to look for it is time to get the keys before they get their hand in you wallet.

The MKIV is very complex and even the experts find it difficult occasionally so they come here to ask for advice from time to time, as the collective knowledge in the club is very extensive and well beyond just basic servicing.

People who really know the MKIV inside out and how to diagnose complex problems are few and far between. Lets hope he does fall into that category or he may cost you far more than you are prepared for.

I was interested to hear that he thinks the car will need two maps one for MOT and on for use. I take it you are running a stock ECU. If he can come up with a way of mapping the stock ECU do let us know, as I have a spare and I'll eat it if he can.:flame:

Yeah.. I am guessing when he wants it back to look over, its gonna cost me loads..

thats why I would like to try some things to see why its running rich and emissions are sky high.

Well, my initial thoughts are on the O2 sensor being dirty or dying. You can that with a multimeter, instructions are here

If your car is pretty stock then that's the no1 suspect.
