BASHTHEBISHOP
If you had purchased £1000 of Northern Rock shares one year ago it would now be worth £4.95, with HBOS, earlier this week your £1000 would have been worth £16.50, £1000 invested in XL Leisure would now be worth less than £5, but if you bought £1000 worth of Tennents Lager one year ago, drank it all, then took the empty cans to an aluminium re-cycling plant, you would get £214. So based on the above statistics the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and re-cycle.

Jake
Can u actually sell empty cans to recycling plants? Yes. My Dad's scrapyard bought all the empty aluminium cans left over from Cowes Week one year - that's like 30,000+ cans. We put them all through a smelting furnace and extracted the pure ali. There was practically sod all that came out though. Ali can are all surface area, very little 'meat'. The vast majority of it just turns to slag inside the furnace. hogmaw
With Tesco you can get 1863 cans of Tennants lager for £1000. Each can weighs about 10g. So that's 18.63kg of cans. According to http://www.brysonrecycling.co.uk, that's worth about 50p Where did the figure of £214 come from?

jim_supra
Current price for scrap aluminium is just under £350 per Ton. So about £6.50 for 1836 cans, not £214.
