NA Auto Box Whining

I have searched on here regarding this problem and have discovered something that:

"That would be the giggle pin and chortle valve that Toyota fitted to the NA and not the TT (anything to make em thing we NA drivers have got something they haven't!!!)"

although I have no idea what this exactly is. Please could someone explain.

Basically on my Supe under hard acceleration in 1st gear (foot to floor and revs to red line before changing) there is a high pitch whining noise from the transmission tunnel area behind the dash. I hadn't noticed this until recently but the only recent mod I have done is major soundproofing to the boot floor and rear quarters. As a result engine noise intrusion into the cabin is a lot more noticable than before because the lack of road noise from the rear masking it out. The noise is only quiet and you have to listen carefully for it when there is no other traffic around creating noise. The whining noise is not apparent in any other gear.

The autobox oil was changed at the last service (had a full overhall of all fluids / filters and timing belt) 3,500 miles ago. There have been no noticable fluid leaks from anywhere.

The only mods my Supe has is K&N panel filter & LPG conversion.

Its my daily driver so if the box is likely to fail or require overhauling it would be better to know now rather than suddenly be left up the creek with no car to get to work in.

Obviously the first port of call is to check the autobox fluid level but any other advice or previous experieneces would be much appreciated.

Thank you

No.

I have way too much time & money on mine to make it how I want it (OE Style) to even consider selling it.

Good luck with your search for one. To find a clean unmolested untrashed example is getting harder and harder.

I will have the levels checked out by my mechanic but will probably leave anything else until the problem develops further.

It may have been making the noise for a while but i didn't notice it due to where other background noise was coming from. Now I have sorted the rear of the Supe by filling the rear quarters with speaker box wadding and lining the boot with a false floor underlayed with foam blocks all noise intrusion comes from the front of the vehicle.

Psycologically speaking, the engine noise intrusion sounds worse than ever! Time for more soundproofing I think;)

Anyone any ideas what is meant by this giggle pin and chortle valve?
