P 17EED
Last time we moved, the wife snaffled three or four empty 20 litre water bottles from the office to store some tank water in (saves some of the bacteria so you're not starting from scratch). She also got a couple of polystyrene cartons from the fish shop which they get their fish supplied in - keeps the fish warm and in the dark in their plastic bags. Catching 40 (!) fish was the hard part, then we just syphoned all 80 gallons straight to the gutter. Even with just wet gravel in the bottom, the tank took all three removal men to move it! However, always make sure the removal men do it for you, because then an accidental breakage in transit is covered by your insurance. We managed the whole move with zero fatalities. Talking of insurance, if you keep fish, you normally need to inform your home insurer, because the risk of water damage is higher - they may crank your premium a little but it's worth it if the tank ever cracks! I bought my tank off a mate, it took 4 of us and we are not small blokes to move it empty! Yes need to keep as much water as possible mine holds about 600 litres roughly 132 gallons if my maths r correct.

far
Hi Mate - not much I can add to what has been already said, just make sure you prepare the tank properly. Its also worth mentioning some fish are hardier than others, these should be introduced first. Also when you are buying fish stock be very selective and pick healthy fish otherwise they will fook up everything. Have a look here http://www.fishforums.net use the search button You should search on the following terms in particular cycling Filter media test kits There is also an entire section dedicated to new tank set ups Its a rewarding hobby but you need to be prepared to 'work' the tank, changing water, treating water, checking PH levels etc - once you get into a routine I really dont think its a huge amount of work and its a great focal point for the living room. last bit of advise would be the bigger the tank the less the risk good luck and let us know how it goes Some great set ups posted btw
