You can just change the barrel, the key signal is recieved through a white plastic ring around the barrel housing.

IIRC when you buy a new barrel from Toyota you recieve two keys with it which then have to be coded to the ECU. You will then however have different keys to unlock and start the car.

If you have the large square black key with two buttons (one raised) then they can be coded to unlock the car aswel.

I think thats right, been out the trade a year now so all the knowledge is fading away!

nope thats pretty much it , sometimes depending age of car it will come with a new key ecu if i remember correctly on a r plate your keys should be reprogramble (sp)
