Tricky-Ricky
As it says can anyone who has had problems with anything CAS related tell me the symptoms and solutions please? Tricky-Ricky
Interested to find out if this has caused low RPM/load issues and not been noticeable under load, i have heard of the trigger wheel being loose, but don't know the symptoms? and would like to find out before i pull off the front pulley etc.
Tricky-Ricky
So nobody has had, or knows about CAS problems?

SteveR
aha! Thanks Conrad! I thought it was crank related but couldn't quite get the acronym to work. Didn't notice it was in the title. Duh!
bondango
Bad crank sensor will usually cause a severe missfire/backfire or no start and usually throws a 12/13 combination code. Guess you might be experiencing the infant stages of the sensor going bad. Maybe worth replacing to rule it out, or giving the face of it a clean in case its crudded up? i would probably look at the cam sensors aswell to rule them out. Tricky-Ricky
I did check the CAS and one of the cam sensors resistance, which where fine, but couldn't get to the other cam sensor, do you think that if the trigger was slightly loose, it would give slight miss/popping on idle and lower RPM but not on load? bondango
I think there are factory specs for free air gapping but not rotational movement, but any significant movement in the trigger wheel would most definately cause problems. I can see a theory where higher RPM/load may be 'holding' the trigger wheel in place better than low Rpm's if thats what you mean Tricky. If in doubt spot weld the trigger wheel to the gear and grind back the welds.
dandan
Does anyone have any info to hand on the CAS sensor? Anything out of the manual? I do not have mine at home. Do we know if it is a hall effect device of a pick off coil type? The latter needs rotation to induce a changing current and produce a reading. A hall effect can read teeth statically (if that makes sense). A failing pick off coil could suffer low speed issues.
bondango
Its a VR sensor (Pick up coil) And How it works (for anyone interested lol) http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h36.pdf
Tricky-Ricky
Interesting, thanks! trying to work out how a loose trigger wheel or weak or damaged sensor would cause an uneven misfire at low RPM rather than high? Has anyone replaced their sensor? and if so how much are they?
bondango
I Dont have the EPC on this computer to check the UK price so US prices, but toyota UK usually just change the $ symbol to £ from what i remember these are pretty close then Crank Sensor 90919-05006 $82.40 Crank sensor tooth wheel 13052-46010 $56.
