Pot
(Hopefully I've posted in the right section, figured this is sort of technical)... When storing a car, I've often heard that it should be moved occasionally, so that the tyres can rotate, so they don't get buggered... I can see that that's a reasonable thing to do, but over what sort of time period does this cover? The reason I ask is because my car's been pretty much stood since the end of June 2007, but has been rolled around a few times (In and out of the garage, and around the bodyshop)... But as I'm fitting bigger wheels and tyres, I was considering the possibility of selling my old tyres... They were no more than a month old before the car went off the road, but obviously I won't sell them if they're now dodgy or dangerous... dan4
our sales cars sit for about two weeks with no problems, probably tyre quality and pressure dependant
Ian C
Two weeks is no time at all really, I think once you get to more like two months you risk tyres going out of round I think. I've not driven mine for I think a month and the tyres were fine. As I'm using mine less now I'd like to know if there is a more definitive answer to this -Ian
madwoody1
another thing to watch is the cold/water coming up through the concrete, this is a common problem on trailers that get stored on concrete (that has no waterproof membrain) or grass as the tyres perish
heckler
I friend of mine had a problem with the tyres on his 911, they come with continentals as standard, car was not used for 2 months and all 4 tyres began to crack and split.... conti rep came out to look, and did say if there not move/roll they will crack.
