The new one doesn't look too groundbreaking now.

I will have to check out this old one. It was 8 years prior my existance so - so that is probably why I had never heard of it before.

It isn't meant to be as far as I can tell. It looks as if they have tried to modernise the effects of the original while not going over the top and losing the feel.

The first mixed live action, some CGI, and a lot of traditional drawn backgrounds, and at the time was rather amazing. Watching it again now though, as it's on Sky Movies so much, it doesn't look that great at all, but this one's in 3D and everything. :)

Shall we go together, Scott, as my girlfriend won't want to see this either?!

Sounds like a plan, let me know when you get here. I'll book the tickets for the 8 o clock showing at the Imax :D

How long is the film?, Wearing the 3d glasses too long gives me a headache.

Not sure on the actual runtime but I'm going to hazard a guess at 2 hours plus given the story and previous movie.

I feel uncomfortable with them on for a long time but I haven't had a sore head yet. I lift them up during boring scenes etc :D

The film is just over 2 hours (127 minutes), and I agree with the discomfort of the glasses, except my right eye waters loads, and looks like I'm crying! Was quite embarrassing while watching Avatar. I blamed the glasses. I really did!

I'll be watching the normal HD version then. The problem with avatar was I kept trying to focus on the background in some of the scenes that are intentionally blurred to give a depth of field effect. I had to take the glasses off and rub my eyes about 5 times throughout the film. Most of the background in the film is in focus on the HD version and the level of detail in the scene is hugely improved. Seems mad to go to all that effort in creating an amazing lush beautiful scene, then blur half of it out for the sake of 3d.

Ahh but the 2D version will be easy to see and readily available in the future. The 3D version, for me at least, won't. I'll take the hit on the stunningitude for the 3D and then, if it's good, get the 1080p unedited action packed edition when it comes out :D

I missed this at the cinema, as my girlfriend wasn't interested in it, so watched it on my laptop the other evening.

I must say that although the story was really dumb, the visuals (including the main female characters) were an absolute treat, and is a shame that I missed seeing it on the big screen in 3D.

Did many others go to see this?

I've been kicking myself for not watching this in 3D at the cinema. Am I missing out if I watch it at home?

I only watched it on a *download* on my MacBook Pro, and that looked great, so HD or Blu-Ray would be amazing, but the 3D-ness would've been worthwhile I'm sure.
