rob wild
Sorry to ask a dumb question here but this is really annoying me! As you might know I've got a rubbish BL box which I'm about to have repaired again by Michel Lane (not Michels fault in any way shape or form). Basically the box is leaking from one of the seals. So on a regular basis I keep topping the oil up. When I get the oil i do the following: Get the car hot then park it up. Put the shifter through all the gears just for a few seconds in each. Then check the fluid with the shifter in Park with the engine running. Now the manual says that you should wipe the dip stick then re dip the oil. The problem I keep having is that I don't want to overfill the box but sometimes I pull the dipper out and there is very little oil on it I.E its on C on first dip. I then wipe and redip and it comes up to top of hot. But sometimes after not adding any fluid its in between hot and cold even after redipping. I've been doing this for 5 years now and have always got the same reading on first dip and second. Don't understand why after doing the same journey driving at the same speed im getting different readings

Now now fellas were at least 3 days off the weekend you horny fools Right back on topic:- Think I may have cracked it, I added some fluid in last night just about 350-450ml and today the first dip was higher and the second dip was the same. So I think I'm right in thinking that the first reading (dip) is the correct one. Also the car didn't seem to slip as much today. So I think that its lost fluid, and when cold i.e. before the fluid expands their is not enough in the TC hence the slip. Paul me old mate could you do me a favor. Next time your out in your car could you do the routing check i.e. get it hot, put it though the gears then dip it twice and see if both reading are at the top of hot? That would be very helpful
