F1 Appeal

Recommended Posts

Well today's the day in Paris for Lewis Hamilton's Spa GP appeal.

After reading all the info on it, as well as the general opinion of all the drives as well as the F1 pundits, even though public opinion is backing Lewis it doesn't look like a clear cut win :(

I think we should lynch the FIA if he doesn't get it though :p Anyone want to join me?

*now looking forward to Singapore which has rain forecast :D *

Indeed - as long as Ferrari don't win I'll be happy - I'd laugh my a**e off if Kubica managed it after all this!

I don't like it though when LH appears to be a bit childish with his comments - he's young but needs to keep his mouth shut more often (hard I know when you have the media hounding you)

Tricky one for me, its hard to say if he had an advantage or not as he was so much quicker at that point in the race. There is no reason to say on that last corner he wouldnt of been as close due to the slippery conditions as mclaren handle rain so much better. Im not sure which way id go.

What clinched it for me was the opinions of the other drivers.

They had about 10 drivers (non Ferrari/McLaren) and asked them. They all said Lewis gained an advantage.

Case closed IMO.

They would say that though wouldn't they? They are the guys getting beaten by him, and he's not exactly humble is he? If you can say something to get an advantage you will...

Plus he's a young rooky, and he's doing a lot better than most of the veterans (yeah I know faster car blah blah), obviously they're going to say whatever they can against him!!

It was funny how last week the commentators kept saying "He'll have to wait till 2 corners on to take back the place now" whenever anyone cut a corner - it was as if a new rule had been created in the book!!! :D

I can't understand how the FIA came up with Hamilton's punishment. So we had Hamilton and Raikkonen fighting for the lead, with the others way behind. Hamilton took the lead and finished first - even if he'd slammed on the brakes and didn't cut the corner, he would've finished at least second. So the only person really affected by it was Raikkonen - who crashed out anyway.

So why the time penalty that moved him down into fourth?

I *believe* McLaren are fighting the punishment - ie saying it's disproportionate to the crime. And on that point I can't see anyone not agreeing. Surely it's obvious that McLaren sought immediate confirmation that the move was ok and that if they'd be told to let Kimi back past they would have...you can't then after the race change things like that. McLaren did all they could to A) make sure they had complied with the rules B) There *WAS* no one corner rule before hand.

In the heat of battle, with positions swapping frenetically, FIA Race Director approval and decisions made in seconds (not hours like the stewards) I honestly can't see how a 25sec penalty is justified.

I thought he got 3rd ;)

But the penalty was awarded because as it stands the Stewards have about 5 things they can do.

1. Fine (Massa's pitlane incident).

2. Drive through penalty or 25secs if awarded after the race.

3. Stop and Go penalty with 10secs in pit box.

4. Grid Penalty at next race.

5. Disqualification.

The stewards are not at liberty (just like magistrates in court) to make up penalties that fit the crime.
