I know we have a few design bods on this forum so lets see if you can help me :)

I have bought the new abobe CS for home and work but when I install it on my home mac with OS Panther 10.3 everything seems ok except when I try to open the adobe applications the program shuts down without any error messages.

Application icon starts to load but after 5 seconds just quits

Tried re-installing, checking settings and even borrowed another copy from a mate but had the same problems.

Anyone know? :swear:

Ed, when you reloaded CS did you delete all the existing files, pref, etc.? CS loads a lot of palettes, brushes, fonts, pref, etc. when it starts up. It sounds like there may be a conflict somewhere with one of these, what other software have you got installed?

I'd try deleting ALL the CS files then reinstalling (if you haven't done already.)

A few other thoughts:

Also what Mac are you using?

Is you OS software upto date?

Is your Mac networked to other Mac's using same CS serial number?

Have you tried downloading latest updates from Adobe site installing and re-opening?

Do you have firewall software running?

Let me know how you get on.

BTW. found some good new Mac P2P file sharing apps yesterday which I'm playing with at the moment and getting some good results, let me know if you want details.

notes:

G4 (The G5 install seems fine at work)

OS 10 Panther (10.3.4 - think I need to upgrade to 10.3.7)

No networks (havn't set one up yet)

Adobe updates (Did a few,.. but got board last night and quit)

Having read the Adobe site I think the most likely reason is a conflict with the fonts you already have installed, so I'd try installing suitcase or follow instructions on link I posted above.

G5  me jealous

Worth updating OS software to 10.3.8

good luck!

You haven't got anything like anti virus on there have you cause i know there was a problem that made Indesign quit....the last resort is totally wipe the drive and start from scratch and make sure nothing at all is installed other than CS :)

Not as such as far as i know (a couple of third parties are developing that kind of thing) but it reminds me when did you last repair your permissions, this can always help and you should do it on a regular basis to keep everything in order ;)

I've had a thought, is the software/serial number the same as you have got loaded on your machine at work? When you are trying to open CS is your internet connection connected?

I remember reading somewhere that to prevent piracy, when you open the latest Adobe software for the first time, it will automatically contact the Adobe website and check the software id.

Try disconnecting internet connection and see if you can open the app. If this is the problem, look in the Library/Application Support/Adobe folder and you will find a file called "Adobe Registration Database" delete this and you should then be able to use the software with internet connected.

I have firewall installed which prevented this happening with my 'back up' copy of PS

No mate :(

Bloody thing just doesn't want to play ball with me.

so far no joy.

Got any more ideas mate ;)

I'll give it some more thought :banghead:

What processor speed/RAM have you got, is it sufficient to run the programme, should list requirements on packaging.

I'll check tonight (at work at the mo) but I'm sure I'll have sufficient power!

Thanks for you help Nic,

Appreciate it mate ;)

You know you are going to owe me that boot install if I crack it ;)

Did you actually try removing the fonts and starting up, or just use font doctor, might be worth removing them and trying. If you want a copy of Photoshop CS, Illustrator CS, could upload them to you if you have broadband and FTP address to send to.
