madwoody1
i'm in the market for a boost controller as car is over boosting in cold weather, but there are so many out there so i'm not sure which one to get so what i'm after is a little help in finding the right one, any views on controllers would be great is there any benefits in buying the expensive one? cheers for the help
Nic
A boost controller cannot stop the car over boosting, a boost controller can only raise boost, it cannot lower boost. I'd recommend any of the Blitz range or the HKS EVC VI
madwoody1
i thought it could also lower the boost proves how much i know about turbo cars lol so how can i control the boost on my car? it still has the first cat in then a second decat pipe(hks race use only) then a gt apexi exhaust
Dave17
restrictor ring that sits in between the cat and the decat?
madwoody1
yea i thought that might be the only way but i also thought that if you kept the first cat in that would keep the pressure down would one of the apexi exhaust valves have the same affect as the restrictor ring as you could set it up a bit more? madwoody1
Based on the very popular B-Spec., the all new PRofec B-Spec. II, electronic boost controller is equipped with new easy-to-use features at an economical price. In addition to the two presets, remote switch option and wastegate response adjustments, the B-Spec. II also includes: built-in back-lit LCD, which can display real-time, peak, or last boost (in either kPa or PSI), an optional warning and (BOOST LIMIT) functions and a larger capacity inline solenoid valve for higher boost levels. this one says it can control boost limit
Ian R
Yes they can contol boost ie boost up from minimum boost to max boost and anywhere in between but the way to control minimum boost is to put in a restricter ring. Hope this makes sense
madwoody1
sorry did you mean max boost?
Dave17
I always thought that if you left the first cat in and removed the second that it would eventually burn your cat out? As for the restrictor ring, i think whiftbitz do them dirt cheap.
Ian R
sorry did you mean max boost? Nope Minimum boost. The ring will stop up boosting too high then you can use the boost controller to increase the boost to the desired level

uk-rich
PRofec B-Spec. II, i have one of these very impressed with it, does everything you want it to, and none of the things it shouldn't need to, un-like some of the fancy pants boost controllers
Nic
Basically your car with the exhaust and 2nd cat removed will boost to a certain base level eg. 1bar. A boost controller can only raise the boost from this base level, eg. 1.1bar, 1.2bar, 1.3bar etc. It cannot reduce the boost to less than the base level figure.
