Supra ST Myster
Parked the supra on the road to pop in a mates, talking to him outside and smash, turn round, twat has hit my wheel, and hes gone down the road 100metres and pulled up, called the police as he was speeding and there was a bike involved, we think they were racing but he says he was trying to avoid the bike and you can see how long it took to stop! My car was parked all fine and legal so no problems there! Wheel is knackerd, top and bottom wish bones are bent, steering rack has been ripped off from the chassis and is leaking a bit, and hub has been broken off so it just flops around! On the suspension arm is bent. Bumper has a slight scuff and wing has a small dent, not too bad He's only third party and he had a crappy fiesta so i reckon that they will write my car off to be honest as its onle a facelift N/A so is it best to ring him first and say give me x amount and doesnt have to go through insurance, as know point him going to insurance as only third party, and if i do it they will only write it off?? thoughts? JamieP
Id let insurance sort it out, you may do ok out of it with buying the car back, iirc is your car not already a cat d? will that make a difference to the insurance claim?
Ric
3rd party means they will pay for your damage but not his, so hes screwed, not you but they still might write yours off true

Supra ST Myster
no, mine was never recorded as a cat D, so shouldnt have problems there, if i claim and they write it off, what sort of figure you think they will offer? also around how much to buy it back? Supra ST Myster
I know it can be fixed and i can do that myself, just you know if you go through insurance they buy everything new, so steering rack alone is stupid money isnt it? benkei
Shop around and get prices on some second hand salvaged parts if the insurance are leaning towards writting it off. And if you're happy repairing it yourself then do that, just get them to buy the parts. I'm sure you can come to some arrangement with them. Obviously only do this if they don't want to repair it. Scooter
Emin have a look on honest john and similar sites, there is often conflicting info but in a case like yours (rock solid third party at fault?) i think you can hold out for the car to be repaired.... http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=62817
Supra ST Myster
the policeman said that if there was any probs that the insurance wont payout then he will give a statement, its pretty rock solid to be honest, the guy was trying to say that my wheel was turn out, but look how close i am to the pavement, also the policeman said it doesnt matter even it was! Jamesy W
You never know, just remember though, whatever your insurance company don't know about on the car, take it off and have it the way they think it is, the last thing you want is them telling you to chase yourself.
