fastisnice
Guys I've seen a convertion set from Japan where you can fit it and convert your gearbox(manual only) to upshifting!! sequential for around £200.Off course you will still use your clutch i suppose? Has anybody heard of this one? or used it? how good is it? They say is very good for getting very good times as you really minimise gear change failure...and is so cheap!!! eyefi
not exactly sequential, is it.
Juggy
I believe this is the kit. Found it at the suprastore... http://www.suprastore.com/stilseqshifl.html
Alex
Ok if its compact enough to be used comfortably. The tunnel on our cars is quite high up and the sequential kit would add height to that. But if it helps you by making sure you don't miss a gear then get it...but ask yourself if its really adding value to your driving experience for the amount you've shelled out. Branners
lol, that looks like a great invention, to change from first to second pull the lever BACK, then to go to third push it forward. So just like a normal gearbox but without the amazingly small sideways movements to get it in to gear.... Personally I think I can cope with the concept of 2nd to third meaning you pull it over to the right a little bit. JB
Doug
But don't forget, these are Americans we are talking about here:rolleyes:
Ian C
I think it's just a sort of one-shot ratcheting system designed purely for a drag race. I don't think it lets you change down or anything until you switch it back to normal 6-speed mode. It's a good idea if you are serious about dragracing, but it's a shame they have given it a misleading name - sequential it ain't! Bit like when they use the word 'World' to mean 'America'... -Ian
Rich J
Nah, you want one of these http://www.takakaira.co.jp/performance/ikeyaformula/sq_shifter.jpg "proper" sequential shifting at a fraction of the cost of a Seq box Video 1 Video 2 Not available for the Supra though. Need4Speed
I'd be extremely surprised if you could make a conventional box into sequential just by changing the gear lever assembly. Save your money and just practice changing with the shift you've got. The selector system in sequential boxes is totally different to a conventional H pattern shift. Strip a bike box down to see how they work. I have a sequential shift, it's labelled 2-3-D etc...
Need4Speed
You could try a serious sequential box such as the Hewland IGT-C. This is used in the Japan GT series and costs a measly £13,000. I don't know if that includes ratios. The moral of the tale is £200 doesn't do it.
Rich J
Did you watch the vids, for less than 1K it's pretty impressive, it basically moves the "stick" up through the original gate pattern when moved in one direction, and moves it backwards through the pattern when moved the other way. (must be some lockout for reverse and neutral) No, it doesn't give you a sequential box, but it gives you a sequential gear change, which for most is as much as they want/need. Yes I have seen inside a sequential box and yes I know they are designed very differently. Edit: or were you talking about the 200 quid jobby, which yes is poo. Need4Speed
As this ingenious "sequential" gear change only selects the gears via the normal H gate, where's the advantage? It can't change gear any quicker than you can. you still have to deal with the syncromesh and it doesn't power-shift. I can think of better things to buy for my Supra.
