Great thread!!

Starts as a worried about famous drummer type affair and gradually sprials off into an "I like guitars!!" thread.......:D

Priceless!

H.

..and right on cue;

What do you call a bloke who hangs around with musicians?

A drummer.

I thank you.

:D

And taking it away again-

What does a bass player use for contraception?

His personality.

:rlol:

Er hold on, I'M a bass player - d'oh :D

Okay oldest drummer joke.

What's the difference between a drummer and a drum machine ? You only have to tell the drum machine what to do once :D

Anyway, VERY glad Travis is gonna be ok :)

Dude, you messed that joke up. It's....

You only have to punch the instructions into a drum machine once.

Slightly OT but sounds like some of you guys do drums. I am thinking about buying an electronic drum kit. Should I get a TD-9KX or the upcoming 2Box Drumit 5? Or something else? Space is a concern so I might end up with a Roland HD-1, but will that just be shite?

It depends how serious you want to get. Good quality e-drums are fantastic and can be gigged quite happily although I'd recommend using acoustic cymbals as the triggered sounds don't quite have the presence of a proper bit of bronze.

I can highly recommend the Yamaha range and the Rolands. I've been playing a Yamaha DTXpress for about 8 years and it's been great. Not heard of the 2 Box thing, but it looks a little cheesy to me.

Even the 'big' kits don't take up that much room. My DTX4 needs maybe a 5' square area to play and folds flat when not used.

There is a really good drum shop in Eccles that might be worth a look in. I know they usually have a couple of Yamahas & Rolands set up so you can get the feel of them.

Well, it's more for fun for me, and maybe the lad will take to it.. guitar was a waste of money for him, so I don't think I'll be going for proper cymbals.

Drum shop in Eccles looks awesome, thanks very much. I reckon I'll be popping over there at the weekend. I believe Sound Control in Salford is gone now..

Yeah, SC is no more, but tbh, they were always a bit pricey for what they had in stock. I've had some good deals from the place in Eccles. The cymbal sounds on the electric kits are good enough, especially if it's just for messing around on, but they don't match the real thing when playing live.
