Konrad
You have a virus. I do not remember it's name, but it causing windows loader to loop. Get out HDD and scan it on other, secured computer. If HDD will appear clean, only other reason i can think of is damaged memory.
Branners
dont panic. The data has not gone. You will be able to get it back again. Worst case we take the drive out of the machine, put it in a drive caddy and plug it in USB to another computer and get the data that way. The first thing to try though is to press F8 as the machine boots up to get a boot menu up. Then choose Safe Mode and see if that works. If it doesnt then you could try 'last known good configuration' and see if that helps. Give me a shout if you need any more help.

Branners
All ready tried those John, same loop happens!! It is possible (through a lot of fiddling with setup files) to get it back working, or if you can put up with it you can get the important data off and just get the whole thing rebuilt from scratch. The fiddly part usually takes me about an hour but needs the Windows XP CD and the original administrators password. Infact if you put in the WIndows XP cd, boot up from it and there is a Repair option from there. May be worth a go.
Terminator
Unfortunately it never came with a CD. The best option is to get the data and rebuild the system if it is worth it. Got a new message now 1720-smart hard drive detects immient failure ( failing Attr : 05) Not having a lot of luck our main desk top just gave up. Fortunately I got all data onto a USB drive last night. I think I may be in the market for a new lap top with a RS323 port I heard the Samsung R700 was a good machine. Branners
not sure how good you are on computer things, but if you buy a 2.5" hard drive caddy from http://www.scan.co.uk or http://www.dabs.com, then take the hard drive out of the laptop, put it in the caddy and plug it in to a USB port on a computer it should find the drive and you can simply copy everything off. I come home via the A1 at Huntingdon if that helps on the handover thing. Im very discreet in my recovery of data too JB
DJButler
All ready tried those John, same loop happens!! System disk, get to command prompt, then Fdisk /mbr enter Might pull you out of the loop by writing a new boot record to the hard drive. Thats Fdisk space /mbr enter
