CAD Drawer wanted!

only just noticed this thread.... didn't know we had so many C.A.D. people on this BBS.

My job is that of C.A.D. Manager for a fairly large company which does civil engineering and I have a smallish team of C.A.D. Technicians which do bridge structures, road design layouts, visualisation drawings and even drive through animations etc. etc.

We use AutoCAD 2004, AutoCAD 2005LT, Lightwave 3D, MX Moss aswell as a combination of graphics packages.

Maybe we should have a C.A.D. section to this BBS ? ;)

Hmm funny you should mention that as we've just bought £60K of laser scanner that I was thinking of having a play with the supe. Only problem is it only produces point clouds (We did a front wing and measured 16million points  )

Catia V4.x has a totally wicked optional module for manipulating cloud data (I was the first person in the UK trained to use it).

:thanku:

We use it for reproducing hand-fettled intake and exhaust ports in CAD.

The manipulation isn't a probelem, however management idiots expect us just to be able to lay a single "a-class" surface over the whole lot. :complain:

PMSL. Yeah, sounds about right.

Actually, you can wrap a surface directly over a could using the module I was talking about. It won't be a-class of course, but its a start.

For Autocad (or any other 2D package, ie just producing drawings) contractors I wouldn't pay more than £20/hour. If you wanted some spangly 3D model then somone just trained in Catia or Unigraphics could probably command £25 maybe £30 at a BIG push. Someone with 3>5 years 3D modelling experience should be getting £30-40. With >5 years experience with good a-class surfacing I've known contractors on £75 hour. :respekt:
