MichaelG
Cut a long story short, dads new 5 Series only has 5k miles on it, and his dash showed that he was due an Oil service in 1400 miles. Fine he thought..... Next day it flashes up oil service due in 600 miles!??!!? after only having done 19 miles the previous day. Next day it flashes up OIL SERVICE NOW DUE?!?!? So he phones up BMW Service dept, and they say "oh yeah thats right.....an oil change is all that is...........thats erm £160 plus VAT" £160 FOR AN OIL CHANGE ??????? Needless to say he went loopy, not to mention the fact his ecu has a mind of its own counting down 1400 miles for a due oil change, in the space of two days!, so they said they would take a look at that too. He refused to book it in and pay £160+ vat (£188) for a sole oil change and reset the service light though, and asked them to explain the breakdown of the cost...... 1 x Hours Labour @ £65 + VAT 1 x Supply Oil and New filter £95 + VAT Now maybe i am stupid, but what oil costs £95 ????? Unless they are extracting it, shipping it and refining the 6 litres themselves then thats a bloody scandalous price. He has asked them to justify that and they cant, they are stumped and they know they are...........so they are going to see if they can "reduce it slightly seeing as he bought the car there" The funny thing is that the cars only done 1600 miles since he got it, and it had an oil service then too..........as it was a demonstrator with 3400 on the clock!!! So whats this cr@p all about ??? The car is only 7 months old. Talk about trying to fleece folk for everything ! Surely thats not right is it ? £160 plus vat for just an oil change ! Even Mitsubishi werent that expensive when i had my Evo 6 and that HAD to be done every 3k !!
cashpoint
They have to make sure the indicator's don't work when it comes in too
Timwildman
Have they got the labour, and oil prices mixed up? £65 sounds quite cheap for 1 hour? where as £45 for oil maybe £20 for the filter would seem more normal. Still a rip off what ever the break down of cost.

Soonto_HAS_soop
Take your own £20 oil and £5 filter then.
Soonto_HAS_soop
Or, better still, pay £15 for a "stamp" and £5 for an ink pad, then change the oil yourself in like 15 minutes and stamp the book. You can buy tools that turn the service lights off, they are only like £20. Stamp and Pad £20. Oil and Filter £25 Doing the service yourself and telling BMW to fuck right off.................PRICELESS
MichaelG
Yeah but when he comes to trade the car in there will be no service record with the car anywhere at any BMW dealer, good thinking tho lol
toyotasuprauk
Its a rip off and they know it, they also know you could get the same thing done with better oil than they will use for a fraction of that price but people need service records and that's what your paying for the stamp. Bobbeh
Thats not a great deal different from a standard Toyota 'A' service. Anyway who the hell buys a BMW and expects servicing to be cheap?
jagman
total time the bmw technician is allocated for oil change is 14 mins! they dont even put it on ramps and remove the sump plug, they suck it out the dipstick tube-the 14 mins includes collecting keys/returning, booking the timesheets, jobcard, oil from stores. they also charge £10 for disposal of old oil - THE CUSTOMER PAYS FOR THE FULL HOUR- main dealers you gotta admire em --- ----wonder why I set up as an independent? Seb
The new Five hasn't been the most reliable of cars, lots of software troubles etc. The 7 is even worse...
