Max Headroom
Because you ran out of bog roll? And that is the most intelligent response you can give to the arguement?
bolarbag
Its the best answer your gonna get tonight myfriend;) I thought this was a debate not an argument, hopefully you have learned something from this post at least:d
n boost
Because you ran out of bog roll? Like i said before i am muslim but i still find it disturbing that people can make comments like this which are just totally unecessary and insulting. Obviously i am not christian but still think it is sick of people to insult someones beliefs like that. No offence, but that is disgusting comment to make about anybodys faith/beliefs. I have been bought up to treat and respect others the way i would like to be treated but seems some people have no respect what so ever for others. Also found Homers comments about nutters making up islam very disturbing and can only say it is sad to see that people on a such a great forum can actually be so silly and childish using totally unecessary language. AJI
n boost --- But this is what happens when religion is thrown (or forced) at people.... non-believers should not be forced to respect something that makes absolutely no sense to them whatsoever. And in today's world we are exposed to religion all the time whether we like it or not. We do not get the choice. I do agree that individual people themselves should have respect.... I would definitely say yes to that...... but what they believe is not something that automatically should demand respect. Don't take this next comment in the wrong manner.... but.. say for example... Gary Glitter firmly believes that the age of sexual consent should be 7 years old.... that should not be taken as a respectful belief....even though its his individual belief. I am just using an extreme example to put the argument across. So I would say try not to be insulted by any religios comments because they are about their own views versus others beliefs.... not about person versus person. If you check Homers post again you'll see that he wasn't at all discriminating against Islam. He's gone for both sides. Christianity existed before a bunch of nutters developed/made up Islam, before which a previous bunch of nutters developed/made up Christianity. Supra-Brett
Bsc Hons Biomedical Sciences. Im really glad this debate has come up. It illustrates perfectly the thread we are posting in. I believe X. You believe Y. I could argue my side all day long and not change your mind. And you the same. OR, we can agree to disagree and shake hands:) ... but be respect is the key. I would never shout anyone down for thier views. BSc (Hons) Pure Chemistry + 10years in the industry:p As per my previous post and as you have also just described above. Both sides say the other is unreasonable and unwilling to listen as both sides are so resolute in their views. Lets agree to disagree. I respect your view (even though its wrong:d)

Thats like saying "im not racist, i hate everyone":d PS - Im not saying Homer is a racist On a side note, i went to see Jimmy Carr last night. He did a few excellent gags on this subject. Conrad
Man these kind of threads always stir up some heated debate. Well at least I assume that's what has happened as I can't be arsed to read all this thread. On a side note, I did have a muslim taxi driver last night coming back from town. I was telling him my sob story about my cheating Ex and he told me I should get myself a muslim bride. He assured me she will never cheat and will do anything I say... lexsum
also; if god was to send a saviour why not wait until we have international telecommunications? why send him/her when we have to depend on word of mouth which is open to corruption, dishonesty and simply made up crap. also what about the rest of the world, are abirigines condemned to hell because of geography? also the pascal comments are a coward's response 'ill belive because i only stand to gain' pfft. that is not belief just hedging bets. the logic stance is that god is so unlikely to be irrelevant. like my chances of winning the lottery. (i don't play but statistically i am almost as likely to win as those with a ticket.)

What i am trying to say is if u go up to someone and say there kid is ugly because thats what u believe then dont u think u would get a reaction to that comment? Religion is more dear to some then others and these kind of threads/issues on media with insulting comments are what extremists are using to recruit young and innocent kids by brain washing them, so u see this is fuel for the fire. Why are these kind of pointless threads started? You will never get agreement from both sides yet i feel these threads are started to wind people up and destroy what is mostly a good natured forum. It is not the first time these threads have taken place on this forum. Get it through your heads people that u can not change anything, for f..cks sake this country could not even organise a petrol strike never mind change religion. So please can someone start another bloody thread cause this one is just going round in circles.

Ewen
So we have gone from Sharia law, through Evolution, via the question "do shoes have a sole ?" and ended up on religion again. Didn't see that one coming.

As for your other comments about threads of this nature being started... well personally I think it's a good way to get a broad range of opinions on a subject and discuss it in a mature way. Some people struggle to discuss things and have to ram their own opinion down people's throats over and over because they things it's the only way. I don't hang around with many people who follow different religions so I can't chat to "real" people about it, a forum like this is an ideal place to reach out to a wide spectrum of opinions isn't it? By all means go and read other threads, crikey you could even start your own if you were feeling up to it, you don't have to read or post in this one

Do you seriously think that things are being discussed in a mature manner in this thread? i know not everyone but some comments are just plain rude and insulting. This is not the first time a thread about religion has started and i have seen the previous ones myself and all i can say is that these dont achieve nothing. I know exactly where i can post and read but am shocked that even though we are all members of the same forum and here with the same interests that dumb ass threads like these dont achieve anything constructive. So exactly what have you learnt from this thread then mate? Also if this forum is say has 1% members who are religious and the other 99% who are not, you say it is a good place to get a WIDE range of opinions. Maybe you need more friends instead and get some real world un- biased opinions.

Tourniquet
Bloody religion, I hate it !!! Grrrr Supra's and rock music are the ball ex though ! But to get my two penny worth, why can't England just be English and everyone respect our traditions and values. Love it or for feck sake leave it. This is precisely the sort of reason this country is so segregated and why 'those people' are greatly despised by everyone - although it's the PC brigade doing the shite stirring it doesn't change or help the fact. Bit said, I'm off. Tell ya mum I said hey !
