steb9780
My cat had some kittens a few months back, but the last one got fleas at a stage were it was too young to treat. Now they have all gone including the mother, but they left me a nasty present in the shape of a circus of blood lusters Now I treat the house first time around with a couple of tins of the spray stuff. I didn't really see any fleas then for a few days, but then they returned. So I did a bit of reading and it sounded like you need to break the cycle. So I have re-done the house with 4 tubs of the powder that you vac off (left it on for 24 hours), and a large can of expensive sparay for the bedding, curtains, skirting boards etc. I am still seeing fleas tonight though. They all seem to be very small though like babies which would tie in with the cycle I read about. Has anyone any tips for getting rid of these, other than calling in an exterminator? They are pissing me off now, and it makes it worse as the kids are getting bitten. I know there are a few vets on the forum, I would like to hear there take on this if possible. Thanks in advance people!
Chris Wilson
You need to kill the eggs, the council have some good stuff, not sure if you can (legally) buy it yourself. If the eggs aren't killed the cycle repeats... Fumigation is the best, the neighbours will just LOVE you Just joking, the council lot are quite discreet these days, had a tenant with (unbeknown to me, and against the agreement) a cat and two pet rats that left a legacy for the next tenants. Mrs H
We've had wasps, mice, ants in our house and use an extermination company called Country Kill they seem to charge £40 for anything, not sure how far around the North West they will travel, but they are cheap, fast and discreet! steb9780
Cheers Chris, to be honest it's getting to the point where I will happily pay the money for an exterminator type person to come in. I have probably spent as much messing with sprays/powders etc. I did notice that a bloke I always say "alright" too and talk general football style crap with, is the proud owner of a Rentokil van. I was thinking of knocking and asking if he fancies a foreigner. I didn't think the council would do stuff like that, well to be honest I didn't think of them, they can't even empty my bin properly Any guesstimates of prices for getting somebody in? Chris Wilson
I was thinking of knocking and asking if he fancies a foreigner. What, like a Serbo Croat bird, or something more exotic like a Latino? How much are they for regular punters then?

Vicki x Cheers Mrs H, I might look them up, from what I read though it'll take 2 trips for fleas due to the cycle. I believe the cocooned larvae (are they called pupae?) cannot be killed at that stage, so a second visit is required to kill them when they hatch. I am itching writing this crud. tbourner
If they're cat fleas then really you just need to go to the vet and get some Frontline Combo. It needs to be the Combo and not just the SpotOn stuff, then it renders the fleas infertile as well as killing them. When the eggs that were already there hatch after a few days they will jump on the cat and the same fate awaits.
bigcol
i agree make sure you get frontline (boiling water works too:d) use frontline on my 3 dogs never had a problem
Scott
We had this problem a few years back in similar circumstances. We tried a few different tins of spray that didn't work then my wife stumbled accross a tin of the cheapest nastiest stuff ever and it worked a treat. Think we may still have some of it left, i'll have a look when i get home if you're interested. Think it was £1 a tin and probably toxic to humans lol. steb9780
Cheers everybody. Just to point out I have got rid of the damned cat now, I enjoyed it in a black bean sauce with some prawn crackers . We always used to treat our cats with frontline. But the kitten was too young to be treated, so developed them quite badly. Now they have all gone, thank f*!k

I read somewhere that once treated the hoover is the best weapon to getting rid of them.

I read somewhere that once treated the hoover is the best weapon to getting rid of them. Nah hoover is useless. Saw them for about 2 days, it was only our hall that had the problem as its the only carpeted area of the house. We sprayed a can and a half of the stuff onto them and that killed all the ones there. Once the eggs had hatched they died almost instantly, it was waiting on the time for the eggs to hatch that made it take a day or 2. Hoovering is pointless, they just crawl back out. They are really really tough little blighters. As above, one of the best ways to kill them is boiling water... try squashing one

I think they are the stragglers, that are hatching etc. and making it off the carpet. I sprayed the laminate but obviously there's no fibre for it to absorb into. I hoover with a dyson with some of that powder in then empty it straight in the bin in a sealed bag. I also read that a cut up flea collar will kill them. I want rid of the bleeters now. I get in bed and everytime I feel a twitch I think I am being invaded
