Guest TRD 904
Can I ask for some advice. I am looking for a reputable source to refurbish some Veilside Andrew Racing split rim wheels. I appreciate that a number of traders can offer a blast and painting service, which may yet be the route I follow to renovate these alloys, removing sign of oxidisation so they can be considered usable, but I am ideally looking for someone to blast and also chrome the outer rim before they paint and laq the 5 centre leg spokes. In order to do a complete job, I assume that the wheel structure needs to be broken down into its component parts then reassembled ? Stuff of potential Horror stories if done badly I guess. A specialist task indeed, but has anyone experience of companies doing such a task and doing it well in the UK ? Any help is grately appreciated Thanks TRD904
Digsy
I did my BBS ones myself. Its not beyond the wit of man but it did turn into a bit of an epic. Yes, they will have to be broken down to do a proper job and you will need a very friendly powdercoater wh owill listen to where you do and dont want paint. The same with the chrome plater. I think some refurb companies do split rims but I don't think they would get into chroming.

Tom S
Yo matey, take a look at my wheels, these where scratch to FCUK, cost me £199.99 inc spaces to be completely repaired and re laquered from chrome to gold. Finish is perfect. I know I am in NE England, but that must be a good price.....
Christian
I got my wife's split rims done at Volks Speed (I think that's what they're called) somewhere in Hampshire south of the A30 a little past Farnham.
DaveN
Has anyone used these guys for refurbishing Split Rims Wheels ? Did they do a good job ? I'm struggling to find a company who will take apart, chrome the rim and powder coat the rest, without them caveating any work with, IT COULD all go pear shaped, so it's up to you mr. customer ! Fancy setting up a wheel shop anyone - seem's there's a demand for a quality service and few companies ready to offer it. My recently aquired Veilsides need sorting. Christian - I could find Volks Speed on the Web or Yell , do you have a number ?

Andy C
I had my Blitz split rims powder coated by Solent Wheel Services in Hampshire. They cost £45 per wheel all in and they did a really good job. The chrome had worn through and getting them rechromed was not an option (mega expensive). They advised me not to have the wheels split, coated and put back together again as they said that it was a) too risky that they wouldn't go back together properly and b) that it would cost me a fortune (there are about 40 bolts per wheel). Thats for your comments, I am now led to belive that splitting the wheels, blasting and then priming before a chrome or powder coat is applied is a high risk/expensive affair. The thought now is to have the wheels blasted intact, being careful to not harm the structure of the bolts, then have the rims sorted before having either the rims chromed/powder coated. LIAM - looks like a conversation is due with you mate to see what magic you can work OR Does anyone wants some 9x18 and 10x18 (UK / JDM Brake Clearance Compatible) Veilside Andrew Racing Alloys in 70% condition ? It's worthwile stating that I am a perfectonist (like others) and these are perfectly usable with only a light kerbing marks and patches of oxidisation/flaking on the spokes.
