Syed Shah
Ok, this is for the Soarer btw: Does anyone have these? What are they like/how many miles between rebuilds of joints etc? What do I need exactly to have the 'full kit' ? http://www.greenline.jp/catalogue/bccatpartlist.php?make=Toyota&carcode=JZZ30&intake=FI&category=suspension Car already has a CW setup - anything else that should be done at the same time? Maybe wheel bearings? With all the worries about banks etc, I think I had better take my money out and put it in to something more tangible ( I blame Mr Wilson btw!) Syed Shah
Bump! Anyone? Some pics if it helps inspire an answer! : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...il/soarer1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...il/soarer2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...il/soarer3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...il/soarer4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...il/soarer5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...il/soarer6.jpg

I dont think many people have had the ikeya stuff on for long enough to know how long they last:( I ask a trader about this when i was interested in the ikeya parts but didnt get an answer . Spoke to one of my friends who has a drift spec ps13 and he says these type of rose joints last for say a year but not sure how many miles that would be. If you stay near CW am sure he could help you sort them out when needed.
Syed Shah
I see - yeah info is very thin on the ground about them. Them need to have a reasonable service life IMHO/relative to cost of rose-joint replacements etc - or I may well look at other options. CW did recommend them, Chris, any ideas? Do you know if they are lighter than the stock items? (not that it matters given the weight of a Soarer )
Chris Wilson
Almost certainly the rod ends and spherical bearings in them will be purchased on the grounds of cost rather than longevity. Luckily, almost certainly they will be a stock size, albeit metric. You can buy very high quality rod ends and sphericals in metric these days (although far easier in Imperial, which is what most race cars use, it goes back to their aerospace roots). Best are probably NMB. I changed from some decent, but less than optimal rod ends and sphericals on an F3 car I raced, and got 4 times the life from the NMB ones. They are expensive though. So basically, when the ones that come with the links wear, you could replace them with something better. I have never seen these things save in photos, they look fairly well made. They look heavy, but they are for road usage, presumably, and need to take going up kerbs and over pot hole shocks. On a race saloon they would be made less heftily, and a lot lighter, but would be lifed.
TLicense
I worry about the method of clamping the OB end of the wishbone to the IB end. I don't know if you'll be able to get enought clamping force to prevent the lateral loads causing the lap joint to slip.
Syed Shah
Chris, these NMB joints I could upgrade to - what life expectancy for the Soarer? Primarily hard road use/w some track. Tony, I *think* they have serrated teeth also, would this not stop the problem?
Syed Shah
BUMP - One more question - are these made of Ali?
Nic
BUMP - One more question - are these made of Ali? Some Aluminium, some steel, some parts are lighter, others similar to OEM.
TLicense
Tony, I *think* they have serrated teeth also, would this not stop the problem? Depends on the geometry of them. If it's just a knurling, then I can't imgine it will. If it's a deep serration them yes that would help. I'd want to see it before committing.... Tony, I *think* they have serrated teeth also, would this not stop the problem? It's water and grit that damages them, NMB do stainless ones with decent linings, and which will last as well as any other high end bearing you can buy. They are NOT cheap though... How's the car doing Syed?
Syed Shah
At Owen Development again. They have reinstalled the stock ECU (I had suggested they let it run the basics from the start). But are still having ABS issues. Otherwise it is running well, though I barely used it due to work commitments/it being back at Owen. Just planning what I need as we had discussed, so that I can get it driving properly, otherwise it is a waste of those tires/your suspension work. So suspecting the intake manifold as the power restriction. Looking forward to getting it back to you in the future.
