Alex
...And the tester did not ask me to out the cat back in (despite being 1 of a chain of well known MOT testers) He confirmed what I was told last year (before the decat) that my car does not officially exist on the Database so IT DOES NOT HAVE TO PASS A CAT TEST. Period. By looking at the ruling in this way all de-catted J-SPEC's upto 1995 should be able to pass an MOT test with out putting the cat back on. NB: this only applies to IMPORTS! The computer comesup with JZA80-xxxxxxxx our Imports are E-JZA80-xxxxxxx the tester therefore cannot find our exact chassis code in the book and a pre 95 car must be tested as a non catted car. Happily though he said my car in its decat form was likely to pass the full test anyway....which is nice to know!

Digsy
Alex, By a galactic coincidence I was going to post a thread today asking for MOT garage recommendations in the Norwich area. Please could you PM me the place where you took yours? Cheers,
Doug
Alex, this may sound silly but inferring from what you say does that mean 1996 and onwards J-Specs do need the cats in to pass an MOT test?
HedgehogSandwich adi
Basicaly, i was told by an ex MOT tester mate of mine...if they dont have the car on record, and as long as the emissions are within limits...you're fine...regardless of whether it has a cat or not. adi

Yes - possibly late 1995 ones as well AFAIK.
