why the silly comment. They are unbearably dated in design (having not changed for over 20 years). They are a dime a dozen, lacking exclusivity, which is the hallmark of a true supercar.

 

Furthermore, I need not justify my reasons as to why the 911 is one of the most boring cars in history. Some people have a problem living in a democratic scoiety where free speech is available for all mkiv owners. Unfortunately people like jake want a dicatorship view where everyone should like the 911 as he or she does .

 

If porsche had owned toyota, when the face lift supra came out, that'd be called the new mkv supra.

Nope and no intention either to be honest. Performance alone does not make a great supercar. Besides performance I see nothing else going for it.

Did the facelift MkIV Supra have 70% new parts over the prefacelift one? No.

Did the 997 over the 996? Yes.

I gave my comments. People on here would do defend the car (for some reason).

 

Handling, poise and grip all come under performance believe it or not.

 

It is ugly, it's dated, it's a posers car, its generally bought by snobs & people who know very little about sports cars in general.

 

I honestly believe a huge majority of the owners who buy them purely do so for their perceived associated image comfort they get by walking back to a 911 parked up or saying "I drive a porsche".

 

Very loser thing to do in my opinion. People have this strange perception in this world that if you have bought a 911 you have made it in life. Quite sad that people are so materialistic but such is life.

 

That said, there will obviously be those who truly love the performance and are pistonheads through and through but I strongly believe they are the minority.

Although this thread is mainly about newer 911s, I would say that when I bought mine it was mostly to see what all the fuss was about. I thought they were expensive for what you seemed to get and I wanted to see what the appeal is.

 

If I cared what people thought, I would have changed it by now. I can afford a newer 911 - I choose not to own one. It is all personal opinion - but I've owned a Supra TT in the past, and currently have my NA - and in my opinion my 911 is better than both. Considerably so in fact, despite the fact that a Supra TT would destroy it speed wise.

Opinion. A very arrogant one at that.

 

Looks are a very subjective thing, for you to say something is ugly is wrong. You should say it's not to your taste.

 

911's are driven by people who know very little about sports cars in general - a small percentage of yuppies maybe, you can tarnish any high sports car marque with that brush. The Ferrari crew will have that element, the R8's will get it, etc. But a generalisaton is way off mark.

 

I hate to break this to you, but the Supra is a fine car, but it's not the best car in the world.

I agree Johnny the supra is not the greatest car in the world though a nice one. Additionally, nor do I or many mkiv owners walk back to a 15 year old toyota with a super smug factor, or boast about it at work, like many 911 owners do (anyone who works in the city, will have undoubtably come accross one owner who exemplifies this). Before I get slated, no not every 911 owner boasts they own a porsche but alot of them do.

The 911 will forever be boring until the shape changes and they come up with something more original. If you love it, go knock yourself out with it, many people do.

 

911 lovers must accept (which given reactions on this thread, this may come as a shock to you), that many people don't like them, myself included for the reasons above, shared by many who despise the 911.

i may be biased because my brother has a 996 turbo cab. he def is someone that knows his car. he's test driven aston martins, gallardos and ferrari's to name a few. and he opted for the porche because of all round performance. he coulda bought a bright red ferrari if he's a poser.

I'm not sure what you mean by "dated". Technologically, they are not. Looks-wise - yes, they probably are since the basic shape hasn't changed. But if you know your history you'll know what happened the last time Porsche tried to kill off the 911.

 

It's also worth bearing in mind that - however boring you think it is - I believe Porsche currently are (or at least were last year) the most profitable car manufacturer. So I doubt they're going to make too many radical changes.

On a serious note for an everyday sports car that you could bumble to the shops in or have hoon down to the south of france and stupid speeds the 911 will do it again and again. They really are fantastic cars in that respect. Also if it is your thing they can be modded too however prices are silly. I seriously looked into getting a 964 and after driving a couple thought against it and got the Tuscan instead.

 

I would say give it a test drive if you like it then go for it. I wouldnt say its a poser car, a 911 driver is more likly to give it some stick than say a Boxter driver!

I have been umming and ahhring about the 911 but after that post I am definitely getting one as it suits my personality perfectly......
