R-TT
Ok, my clutch is starting to slip and im just wondering what the best option to go for is?? I have a tt 6sp full bpu, fmic, mines ecu etc rolling roaded at 384bhp at under a bar of boost, since then fitted apexi boost gauge and running 1.2bar my question is.....is it worth fitting a standard clutch? will it last? at the moment i probably wont be upgrading much more but u never know in the future i have seen this one: Item RPS Max Series Clutch Kit for 1993-98 Supra TT Half way down this link : http://www.powerhouseracing.com/Templates/frmtemplateM7.asp?SubFolderID=5&SearchYN=N any1 used this or have any other options? for this king of cash cheers
harley-jm
I would put in the RPS since you need to replace the clutch anyway. I put in a RPS Street Max and havent regretted it. Good for 500bhp and nice and smooth and not too firm. I also took the opportunity to put in a lightened flywheel which makes the throttle response alittle nicer but is embarrasingly noisy at idle.Re: clutch, you may have 384bhp now (where standard clutch should be fine) but I'm sure you may upgrade the power further later and you dont want to go back and do the clutch again..... cheers
R-TT
thats what i was thinking, didnt wanna do the same job twice. just didnt know which brand/one was best to use. cheers for your reply
Nic
If you're running stock turbos I would replace with standard OEM clutch, as it's the smoothest, quietest and easiest to use, plus usually the cheapest option too. Aftermarket clutches designed to handle more power are generally noisy, heavy and grabby in comparison. Aftermarket is not always better, especially true when it comes to clutches. supra dan
i agree with nic i had an RPS it only lasted 3000 miles. swapped for a stock toyota and not had any problem since

I have an OS Giken clutch with a slightly lighter flywheel, it is light, smooth, does not grab, but rattles like a bitch:d, it amazingly strong. steb9780
Or maybe one of Chris Wilsons modified stock clutches?
Ian R
Have a RPS carbon carbon on mine as Nic said is noisy but so far has proved to be bullet proof (touchwood)
harley-jm
Interesting - those recommending the stock clutch - what is it good for in terms of max bhp + reliability? Suppose it depends how you drive/what you are using it for? thanks P
Nic
Interesting - those recommending the stock clutch - what is it good for in terms of max bhp + reliability? Suppose it depends how you drive/what you are using it for? thanks P It can handle BPU power levels on stock turbos. Unless you running aftermarket turbo or using the car on the track, I would personally always go with a stock clutch.
R-TT
whats the one cw does? what power are they good for? i assumed the stock was at its limits at 400bhp???? no??
Luxluc
Before going single, I had my car running full BPU - stock euro-spec turbos running 1.4 bar - with OEM clutch. Worked very fine
SJMKIV
Would the stock clutch work well if I do full blown starts with my bpu supra? or power shift a lot? or would you then recommend a aftermarket clutch for street use, like the rps or act
Luxluc
Unless you don't put at every red light half an inch of rubber on the tarmac, the stock one will be fine (condition : it is still fine and not used through age). If you plan to do drag strips twice a week, then go for an aftermarket clutch.
