He has a BMW M3 E46 on a 2002 plate, he has serviced the car regularly by BMW and has had the car for 3 years. Basically he is in need of a low mileage 2nd hand engine or a reconditioned one. For some reason BMW say (maybe a Failure with the Vanos unit) the Cams have worn very strangely but as a result of this has dumped a lot of the Cam material around the engine, which has scored the Cylinder head bearings and bearing housings and possibly damaged the bottom half of the engine as well.....not good. BMW have advised him not to try and repair the engine as replacing the cylinder head alone is near £8k !! They have advised that he either spend a little more on a new engine which is £12k or get a good low mileage 2nd hand unit then have it tested (leak down, compression test, Bore scope etc) to see if it’s ok. The thing is he is having difficulty finding these engines does anyone know anyone that could get this engine or a company etc.... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
