Pop an exhaust on, make it sound nicer and then that's it really, most other basic bits are just cosmetic or actual reduce performance / do nothing. If you love the car that's wrapped around the engine and don't want to part with it you could fit a turbo kit (NA-T) or transplant a TT engine into the car. Also think about upgrading the suspension and brakes. This is a good way of "increasing" speed. Allows you to corner far better etc and therefore maintain speed.
