gordy07
I have been thinking of a TT transplant for my NA aerotop for a while now but theres still a few points i need cleared up:) This may sound silly but if i fit a TT engine in my sz would i be able to have traction control? or would it be hard/expensive to fit with the new engine/transmission. Also if the new engine was tiptronic what sort of problems could that cause with the transplant? Thanks in advance for any input:)
Pig
Stock TC is rubbish and without a TC ECU it wouldnt work. If you have ABS on your car you could get RLTC, much better. Is the engine a vvti? I thought all tiptronics were???
gordy07
One of the engines im looking at is vvti how is that an issue? PS i have ABS well i think so an abs light comes on with ignition
mikeyb10supra
as pig said, stock TC is a pile of guff.....if you must, get RLTC but in my opinion its wasted on a BPU car and not really needed. bags of grip in the dry unless your going for comedy wheels. In the wet just take it easy

mikeyb10supra
You dont need it so dont bother
Terminator
With ABS sensors RLTC would be easy to fit. RLTC is a motor sport developed traction control system. It is now in use on some high powered production cars. There was one car featured on Top gear a few months back and it was clearly the RL digi adjuster in the dash. Whether you need a traction control system is a very personal choice. May be for driving gods it is not necessary, as they can predict everything. It is a bit like saying ABS is not necessary. Personally I have only had ABS kick in once in the Supra in 8+ years owner ship, so it is a back up system for me, but I would not get rid of it as you never know if you may really need it. I see traction control as the same type of thing, I am human and make errors. I have used RLTC in my car for the 7 years it ran an auto box. Since fitting my manual box, I have not reconnected RLTC yet, as I want to get to know the limits of traction. I my limited experience, I would say RL is more useful as a safety back system in an Auto. I don't know what power I cam running but it must be well over 500bhp but have not felt the need for it yet! One thing is certain I will refit it as I want a fool proof proven back up system. RLTC does have other benefits it can save you money on tyres, the launch facility If you are running the stock MKIV system, be careful as it can and does cut too much sub throttle and leave you without the ability to accelerate out of a situation. This is the time of year that we start to see the "Just trashed my car " threads. In previous years, many of those owners who got another MKIV, made RLTC their first purchase. Dont be swayed by either for or against agreements of others. Make up your own mind based on how you intend use the car. Good luck with the transplant project, hope it all goes well. chris2o2
I didnt think too much of my RLTC until i drove my mates BPU without it , i'm glad i have it - would be nicer to be a driving god im sure but im not and i wont kid myself on that i am . Guigsy
my 2p... Ive never lost traction in BPU. Not even in the wet. Even nailing it from lights. But then if its wet im not driving anywhere near fast enough to loose traction.

Terminator
RLCT is fairly expensive, no doubt about it, but so it smaking in to a tree. You sometimes see systems pop up on here at good prices so keep your eyes open. The cheaper manual adjustable version is £150/ £180 less than the system with the Digi adjuster, which is over rated and not necessary. There are a lot less powerful RWD cars that can easily get out of shape in the wet, the MKIV is no exception. If you get along to a meet, I am sure that someone will have RLTC and would be delighted to let you get the feel of it. When RLTC is set up well it is virtually imposible to feel the low level cuts, so many people will not realise it has done anything.
Guigsy
I take it you mean without tc guigsy? I have my TC turned on all the time. Only comes on when i go over big bumps at speed. Never when accelerating. I only turn it off to make smoke
