Ok the problems are listed as below...plz help hope it isnt turbo failure problem.

J spec 6sp TT

car is completely standard, except for a hks dragger exhaust (old jasma one)

when car at wot i get 0.6bar boost in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and maybe 4th but thats it(i think) through out till red line, when in 5th and 6th gear i feel the dip in power at 4k rpm and then boosts to around 0.7bar (gauge is electrical, greddy) i can feel the 2nd turbo kick in at these gears but in 1st 2nd and 3rd i dont think i do, when i dont observe the gauge the car feels rapid and feels ok, but when i observe the gauge, i dont see the dip in boost and then increase in boost when 2nd turbo should come onilne.

(should the boost drop just before 4k rpm and then go up to around 0.7-0.8bar in all gears?)

there are no visible oil leaks and i dont get any smoke what so ever, i get the odd start up smoke which is moisture, but thats it, under throttle my mate was following me and could not see any smoke when i floored the car.

guys please help! just spent 8.5k on this car and problems already.

also is 11psi what the car should be hitting max boost?

1st thing, chill out! maybe you shouldn't have bought one with a boost gauge! if this wasn't there to watch is there really anything else noticeably wrong?

seriously you may have minor problem, small boost leak etc, but i would think it is almost cetainly be a very small problem, if indeed a problem at all (could be the guage is slightly under reading?

my advice would be a trip to pod, or a RR maybe?

Some ideas for you wkd...

I haven't had first hand experience of these symtoms myself yet but i've heard them discussued a few times before and if one of your turbos has gone you should really know about poss smoke from exhaust or unhealthy sounding noises from the turbo area.

Most likely culprit i would have tought to check, which is apparently quite common, is the failure of one or more of the various vacuum hoses for the various actuators controlling the Twin Turbo set-up. A split or leak in one of these cheap n easy to replace hoses could be the difference between 2nd turbo and no 2nd turbo etc.

Not sure it sounds like a boost leak, but don't quote me on that, when i got my Supe there was a boost leak noise which appeared to be coming from the Blitz Blow-Off valve which was on it, after endless adjusting and checking of the BOV the noise was still there, didn't change a bit, so i junked it for an adjustable recirculating BOV, the noise was still there (although the car still boosted fine up to almost a bar as x1 de-cat and Blitz NUR)

Determined to find a leak i pressuized the boost system pipework and located the leak at the intercooler pipe which wasn't completely home on the cooler and been leaking (oil sweat deposits around pipe and clamp) with that sorted all that can be heard is the sweet high pitched whistling of the TT set-up doing it's thing.

This is exactly the same as my car was when it was stock (except for cat-back exhaust)

0.6/0.7 bar seems about normal for a stock jap car.

In my experience you only really get max boost in 5th/6th gear, for example: I usually see around 1 bar in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1.1 in 4th and hit the 1.25bar fuel cut in 5th and 6th (Fully decatted)

Also, in a stock jap car you won't really notice and turbo transition in the lower gears, its only once you start decatting that it become noticeable. You are feeling the transition in higher gears simply because you're accelerating much slow than in lower gears.

Still, it won't hurt to check the hoses just to see if everything is okay!

wdktime, where about's are you in middlesex? I've got/did have similar problems but everything seems fine now, if you want I could meet you half way somewhere as I have a few things we can check with, I've almost got the whole sequential system figured if you want some help.

PM if you want.

Having only driven in my stock jap TT i've nothing to compare it with but i can certainly feel a huge dip in power between the 2 turbos (4,000 rpm) in 2nd gear - more so than the later gears. Should this not be happening ?

Also can someone clear this up for me, a lot of websites state a Jap TT has 280 bhp and the UK 326 bhp, when i first bought mine over a year ago i got it rolling roaded to make sure it was all running ok and it came out at 323 bhp ?!? could my car be moddified in some way or are all supras supposed to be 326 bhp ?

It is always very difficult for a new owner to describe problems on their car and for us to diagnose the problems.

If it was my car (and I lived in the UK) the first thing I would do, is take a trip to see Chris Wilson and get it thoroughly checked over. It might cost a bit, but you will be able to get everything diagnosed by an expert and I'm sure the car will feel 100% better when you drive it home.

Hi according to my toyota manuals turbo pressures should be betweem 8.8psi (0.6bar) and 10.8 psi (0.74bar). So yours seems fine. My car is stock and boosts at around 0.65bar. If you want to increase it to say 0.8bar which is still within the stock levels use a bleed valve and raise it slighty. My car runs at 0.78bar. with a small bleed and believe me it makes a huge difference.

Gonna get a decat and performance exhaust soon and will raise it to 0.9 bar.
