Poor Performance after service

Sorry, reposted this here as thought it more relevant

Guys, some major help needed here. Had my car in for a service last week and guy changed most things. Garage was recommended from here.

Only had a chance to push it a bit today and it was feeling a bit sluggish. However, Ive noticed that I cant get it above 5200rpm in 3rd or 4th gear. (NA Auto btw). Normally if I switch the Overdrive off I can rev the arse to redline in 3rd (indicated 125mph) before switching it back on as required.

I even put it into manual and although I could get the revs up in 2nd even when I went to 3rd manually I couldnt get over 5200 rpm.

I actually had a f****in Saxo pulling away from me at about 100mph. In the end I pulled over as if I couldnt be arsed, just to save face!!

Anyone got any ideas? Garage was closed today but will be getting a call first thing tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm off to Germany first thing on Tues mornin so am a bit worried.

Any help appreciated as per usual

yeah mate.

Was mostly just oils and stuff.

Advanced Formula Motor Flush

Toyota Oil Filter

Valvoline 10W40 Maxlife

Air Filter Toyota

Fuel Filter Toyota

NGK Spark plugs BKR5EP-11 (6 of)

Service and inspect

Thats it. Just spoke to the fellah and he said to bring it back in. All well and good but I cant get time off work today, and am off to Germany tomorrow. Bugger!!!

Blert, is it an overall loss of power or does it chug/heave forwards and backwards or misfire..? Any symptoms will help

Seems to be a loss of power all round. took it back to garage at lunch today and tried a bit of throttle and seemed to take an age whereby it reached a speed and then just stayed there. Eventually it changed up into 3rd and speed increased. Not by much though.

Also noticed that its guzzling fuel compared to the same journey i done last week.

Garage gave it a quick check while I was there and mentioned something about two throttle controls? have left it with him for now and HOPEFULLY he will be able to sort by COP today.

one last point is that on the service he said it was running lean, but that could have been due to the sparks being "totally white, and the gap was more than double what it should have been".

All Greek to me. Worryingly so!!!!

Guys,

Just had the garage guy on. Apparantly it was a knackered fuel filter which they fitted last week. Replaced free of charge of course.

Bit worried now though that they checked the car over prior to fitting this new one. Or maybe its just me being paranoid and it went over the weekend.

Anyway, proof is in the pudding....excuse to go for a little run tonight. :D :D Had it up to indicated 140mph already, but what is the real world top end for the NA compared to indicated.

My Prelude used to do an indicated 130 but would be pretty unstable....lets just say you knew you were going fast!!

Thanks for the help btw.

Hmmm. Not sure how a knackered fuel filter, running lean and usinglots of fuel stack up. Was the filter actually leaking?

Did they replace your filter on the service for a knackered one? Didn't quite get that...

Can't see how having not changed it would have caused the sudden lack of power, me thinks the more likely cause was it having been replaced on the service and not done up/checked for leaks which would explain the " increased fuel guzzling on the same journey as last week" and the fuel starvation/lack of power.

Anyhow at least they sorted it FOC, if they were proper Rouge traders they would have probly told you your Reciprocating-thingerme-doofer was knackered and needed urgent replacement for the bargain price of £1,000!

Well, got her back and things seem better than ever now. Deffo much better than it was when I got it originally, and better than after the first service. No charge and the guy was sound about it.

BUT.....I head an EVO coming in and the exhaust was brill. Maybe a bit loud for my neighbours though. So now gonna look for a thread on getting rid of my stock exhaust.

Gettin bloody expensive this Supra ownin malarky :D

Edit: Got my eye on a nice reciprocating - thingymajiggy, but may have to wait till next month. Strange, searched on ebay and couldnt find one
