5 speed box in a TT

The gear ratio is not ideal so it runs out of steam easily if you like motorway runs. The final drive on the TT's is much lower as you don't want to be sat on an A or M road with the turbo's in positive boost area every time you squeeze the pedal, that wouldn't be nice on fuel economy.

But yes, with a clutch change it can and has been done.

If it has one, I highly recommend changing the open diff for an auto LSD, it'll bring the final drive ratio down and allow you to get the power down. BPU TT and open diff is NOT nice to drive!

soarer has a longer shifter housing than the mk3 has, the mk3 box has the shifter to far forwards and needs extended. the soarer came in two flavours as far as im aware, one with an actual extended shifter housing and one with the standard shifter housing but with a swan neck shifter so it sat in the correct postion. Their both physically the same transmission.

I run mine whichs is BPU+ on the 5speed box and am very happy with it first gear is pointless lol 2nd gear lights up the rears with out any problems in the dry! so you have to feed the power dont just floor it, 3rd and 4th are awsome you can really feel the sheer power!

Only thing is it can hit the limiter in 5th gear in less that 30seconds but then again you would be doing around 160leptons so not to shy you just no it has more to go as it pulls so hard to that speed.

was that with a w58? did you have an LSD installed with it? LSD will be harder on it

My NA was one of the few that came with the LSD as standard so i done the TT conversion and kept the W58 box and LSD on there it seems to be a good setup i like it alot ive done 2000miles since its been done and have givin it quite abit of abuse at times at 1.2bar and i havnt had any problems yet so hopefully it will hold out.

thats good to hear, i might go with a w58 myself, was going to hold off for a r154 swap next year but from what you and a couple others say the w58 seems to hold bpu power quite well.

All i was told was to not slam it into the gears or crunch them thats they only way you can really cause a problem if you respect the fact the car is running alot of power and dont abuse the w58 box it should hold the power for a long time.

It really depends on how much power you want to make. The V160 (6speed) is far superior to the 5spd. The 6spd can take any amount of power you make. But it is also very expensive.

If you are not going to make much power (BPU) than the R154 would be just fine.
