Well according to John Wells, retired Professor of Phonetics at University College London and president of the Spelling Society it is.

New article here.

Another quote from another news paper....

Irregular spellings hold children back and should be scrapped, said John Wells, a retired professor of phonetics at University College, London. He will tell the Spelling Society tomorrow that it should be correct for 'you' to be spelt as 'u', 'you're' as 'ur' and 'whose' as 'whos'.

I guess all you moaners and groaners have got it wrong? Embrace the change. ;)

That's the stupidest thing I've ever read! People shorten words on text because of pay-as-you-go customers need to keep characters short to fit it all in one sms! People who use it online are just plain lazy! And that professor is an idiot if he thinks it's the way forward! If you wrote say a whole paragraph in that manner, it would look uneducated and may possibly be unreadable! The English language has been written like this for how long now? Our grandparents can spell it, our parents can spell it, Hell, I can even spell most things! It's just a generation of lazy sods who can't be bothered to learn the difference between their, there and they're! Using the same word for all cases would get confusing! It's a step backwards in the English language, not forward! The spelling isn't the problem, it's the society and the people in it!

Here here, I think we should also get rid of paragraphs too. ;)
