Guest slow dog
i like the idea of being watched whilst you work puts the fear of god up some mechanics as they cant pull there special hammering and crow bar out on your pride and joy then go for a tea break and talk to there mates on the phone about there lifes histroy whilst you are in the waiting room getting charged an hourly rate for his phone call...... what about a self help service were you work alongside your mechanic for a cheaper hourly rate ???????????????????????? michael
Known experience with specific car (or generally high level of skill so they can adapt to anything) Location (sadly *nobody* seems to be near me!) Reputation (honesty counts for a lot) Price Those are probably my top four initially, bonus features are that the staff aren't ar5es and they have a courtesy car

Green Peace
i was on about paying less as you are doing some of the work not more lol Thats an excellent idea! Reputation..is everything...though as we all know by now...there used to be mechanics that some used to promote then we all got ripped off blind though I guess not only did their reputation go down the pan so did the people who reccomended them !!!!! Reputation is Everything..reccomendation has to come from 'honest' sources Paul if you can keep that personal service up...surely nothing can be better... You already have an excellent reputation (with cars lol) In my honest opinion and after 7 years of Supra ownership you are the best I've met in the South...keep up the good work....we need you! If you were shit I'd say it...and everyone knows that by now.
Syed Shah
Reputation and the skill of the mechanic tend to go hand in hand. They are the most important. Price and location are of less importance. I am usually prepared to travel for serious work, and pay the price for good work (it is when you have travelled and payed a lot for poor work that is a bitter pill to swallow). Name is part of repuation to me. While the workshop is not really important if the mechanic has what he needs for the task at hand, and the knowledge to do it. MONKEYmark
i would say if you can leave your car with someone who knows what they doing and tells it like it is. cost is a big part of it too. best one i been to is Chris Wilson. reputation is everything, but you can get let down by so called experts. would not leave supra in the hands of toyota, just dont trust them. i been working on escort today getting it ready for MOT in morning, just done oil and filter change and put a new air filter in. been checking all brake pads. the fronts need new pads. have never changed pads on a car before, and only ever done 2 oil changes. but fitted a fmic, thor fuel cut, hks boost and egt gauges, supra electric window motor. just found out front brake pads need changing and rear shock is leaking on escort. it makes you feel good if you can fit parts yourself. leave other stuff like cam gears and brakes to experts. what kind of price would it cost to fit uprated pistons and rods and maybe titanium springs and retainers
Guest Sakura
Reputation (recommendation from someone I trust) Experience Proper equipment and tools Location (especially if it is something that will take longer than a day - how do I get home? ) Friendliness and honesty, and somewhere that doesn't treat women as if they are stupid, don't know their own car, and always make the invoice out to "MR" whoever (because Toyota always assumes that men own cars and women just deliver and collect them). Lez
Apart from MOT's I've never put any of the 40 cars I've owned over the past 26 years into a garage, and even then I'll only go where I can watch. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones who can do my own work.
