Elliot
Please read...then decide! I sold an item recently for around £26, in the item description I said that P&P to USA was £11.50 airmail, or £5.50 surface mail. (it weighs over 1kg) I'm not making any money on shipping BTW. The buyer even asked me in the "ask seller" bit how much shipping was & I told him then. I sent the invoice etc & he keeps e-mailing me different problems he has & asking me to advise. (see below) Ouch!!!!!! S&H can be...well.....painful.... :o) With things as they are now...well.... Let me explain. A) my wife works for the State, and they pay a pittance. B) I am a disabled vet./former teacher (degenerative brain damage) 1) Social Security has been consistantly running late depositing my disability check (disabled from degenerative brain damage) and I know not when they will "get back on the ball" so to speak. C) Last October, our son suffered an Acute Subdurmal Hematoma in a football game. He underwent emergency brain surgery, and they pulled him throu. That injury has less than a 50% survival rate. D) As a result of that injury, he can not longer participate in contact sports. Thus, the miniatures are for him to keep him busy. E) Last night, my wife and I found out that our Health Insurance Company is NOT all the hospital bills, they are trying to stick us with 50% or so I've basicly told him that he knew what the P&P cost was, so without telling him how to run his life, maybe he should adjust his bid or not bid at all if he can't afford it. I also pointed out to him that his feedback shows he's bought loads of stuff lately. The e-mail I sent wasn't rude. It was 'considerately' worded, explaining I didn't want to sound rude or unsympathetic, but basicly I'd be more than happy to offer it to the next highest bidder if he didn't want to go ahead. I also kindly told him I didn't want to send it for nothing as I have my own problems (especially with money!) but didn't want to burden them on him. Am I evil!?! you decide with the vote PS the e-mail had another similar bit 'cut and pasted' at the bottom that made me slightly suspicious... Class One
Your "buyer" sounds like a scammer to me. Tell 'em to shove it and go with the next best bidder.
paulfurn
Whether he is genuine or not, it really isnt your problem. Why the hell he has chosen to tell you his life story in order to circumvent paying shippinh I dont know. I think you did the right thing for what its worth. MARTIN R
Dont think you are harsh, its his problem I reckon.

Clarkey
Whether that violin story is true or not ... like you say he knew what was what before bidding & winning the auction. Sounds like he's poncing around - hoping he'd save some cash on the shipping. Say pay up .. or offer it to the other bidder.
Elliot
I'm feeling slighty better now looking at some of the replies so far! 50% of me says it's only a couple of quid, you won't miss it. If what he says is true then he needs it more. 50% of me says he's making it up, keep the money for yourself - it's yours by right. If he needed the money he wouldn't be splashing out on eBay

I agree, Bottom line, his life is not your problem and im sure you dont really care. only buy an item if you want/ can afford it. Dont pi55 people around. If you know the cost of something why argue. Tell him you have 2 broken arms and cant carry the item to the post office. Im sure he wont care but its just the same.

Tell him you've got a fuel tank to fill of Optimax - chances are he won't know or care what you're talking about.

Scoboblio
WTF is he on ebay for if he has those kind of financial probs?! My feelings exactly, you did the right thing mate. It sounds like you've been much more polite about it than most people would be too.

Elliot
I thibnk he is a scammer - but voted you as a horible and dispicable bastard anyway Dispicable & bastard weren't options though! I got a reply from him this morning : I totally understand. I had to ask. All is well though and the PayPal payment will be en route in a few minutes He paid through Paypal, and paid for AIRMAIL shipping!!! He said he couldn't write too much on the Paypal payment e-mail as his migraine was hurting. Oh well, I'm feeling a bit better after seeing the vote! Good to see I'm not the only cynic on here! Steviekid
Think you did the right thing mate. If they might be lumbered with 50% of the cost of that kind of surgery then your P&P a bit insignificant!! Also if their son has came through the surgery and drainage was successful with no further bleed, a spontaneous bleed in the future isn't very likely unless he's got a concurrent clotting disorder, so he should be able to do anything he want's that doesn't risk getting his head smacked in. damouk
i would tell him to read the e-bay rules and report him to e-bay as a non payer does that mean i am harsh?
SupraStar 3000
It infuriates me that genuine people that have major problems with finance and health issues can't ask for help because of vermin who pray on our better judgement just save a few quid. Don't know if thats a legitimate e-mail (I suspect its not) but I hope the guy either gets better soon or ... maybe experience some of the suffering he claims to have received. on a lighter note: PMSL at Jake AB1CDE... dangerous brain
Here here. It is quite clearly an attempt to prey upon peoples better nature. Its despicable that people try crap like this. As everyone else on here states if he is genuine then he wouldn't be on ebay he'd be geting charity from elsewhere. If the guy was genuine and had asked me before the end of bidding before placing a bid I would be more pre-disposed towards considering droping some of the P&P costs but to blatantly try it on after winning the bid is way out of order. Burn him he's a witch
