SupraD06
Ok first of all im not sure if my alarm is the standard alarm or not, but basicly i have two red L.e.d's in the car the first is at the top of the drivers side pillar next to what looks like a little speaker thing, and the second is tucked into the roof lining where it meets the windscreen, now i have never noticed before but the one at the top of the pillar is on all the time, whether the car is locked or not, and the one on the windscreen used to flash at one speed if the car was unlocked and then flash faster if it was locked. but now it only flashes when its locked and not at all when its unlocked, any ideas why this might be? the only wiring thats been done in the last 6months is wiring in a boost guage and that was taken off the cigar feed, also im assuming if the one is on all the time then this will be killing my battery
merckx
Have you tested the alarm to see if it works?
SupraD06
Tested in what way mate? When you press the fob the indicators flash and you still get the beep sound of the alarm being turned on and the light flashes as it always has done, just no light flashing at all when i unlock the car and i have a perminent led on the A pillar, maybe the perminent one has been like that all along i just dont recall it being like that, why would it need to be lit up all the time
suprasurrey
If the alarm itself is working and the only problem is the LED staying on, don`t worry, the LED only draws milli amps and has no chance of killing your battery. If the alarm is malfunctioning try disconnecting your gauge, not too sure on this, but if the cigar lighter feed is not switched via the ignition the alarm could be seeing a volt drop. This may prevent it from arming correctly.
merckx
Tested in what way mate? Would the alarm siren go off and would it immobolise the car if someone was to force entry and try to steal it?
SupraD06
Ok i get it lol, will test it tomorrow, if i put the window down but then lock the car the alarm should go off if i try to start the car or open the door shouldnt it? if so then i will do this tomorrow, as i say the alarm sounds when i press the button and the doors lock, i cant see how ive made the led perminent just by cutting into the cigar feed just for the boost guage to light up. georigg
Hi Supradog, First, the cigar lighter on the supra is powered "down" when the ignition is switched off, ie there is zero volts at it ulless the ignition is in the on or accesory position. Two, the little microphone you refer to ason the pillar is a movement sensor which will pick up movement inside the car when the alarm is on(can also pick up air movement if the car vents are left open and the sensors are "turned up" to max sensitivity. Their presence tells me your alarm is not OE equipment nut after-market. Hasve a look at the siren in the engine compartment(thats the usual place to find them) and see if there is a make name or model number on it. If there is, do a search on the internet of rht manufacturer and type and you should be able to down-load an instruction manual. Its "possible" that the pillar LED identifies when the alarm is "on" and the roof one identifies if the internal movement pick-ups have been by-passed/switched off). Most alarms allow this to cover leaving a dog or whatever inside the car and switching on the alarm...... this is usually done by pressing the fob button in a particular way to isolate the intrernal system while activating the other alarm features...........uyou will only find this out if you can identify whose alarm and what features it has in operation. Leave one window open, switch on alarm and wait about 30 seconds for it to activate(keep an eye on the LED) then stick your arm inside the car and wave it about. If the alarm does not go off, it may be the inside pick-ups are in the "off position". To otherwise test the alarm, jack up one wheel about six inches off the ground and then set the alarm. release the jack quickly(hydraulic one is best) and see if the alarm goes off. If it doesnt work on any of these tests, all you would appear to have is flashing LED's!!!!!! Hope above is helpful. George
