tDR
Just been looking at the Turbo kits going on suprastore.com and they have a "Stage 2 - 575R kit" for sale at $5,700 + the shipping and around $1,250 installation & dyno setup. Check this link to see it. Now to me, that looks like the best value way to achieve that kind of power - they reckon 575HP (American Hamsters of course) on 92 octane fuel at the crank using the stock fuel system. Now if you were running Shell Optimax which is 98 octane does that mean such a kit would get you at least 500BHP at the wheels? I am assuming you already have UK spec fuel system / BOV / FMIC / de-cat / full exhaust system already in place. So, at $7,000 or £4,600 is this kit good value ? It seems much better value than the other kits they have on offer, for example the stage 3 gets you 700HP, but only on 28PSI of boost and race fuel! Indeed, the much more expensive stage 3 kit only claims 570HP on 92 octane fuel.
Paul Whiffin
Not really, I can supply the Powerhouse Racing stage 1 single turbo setup for £3650 + shipping and VAT. You can run this on 550cc injectors as long as you keep the boost down that is. Or even cheaper still the street turbo which is £2650 +. tDR
What do your kits offer Paul? In terms of what's included and what BHP / wheels figure we could expect. And what about the AEM ECU with appropriate base map - is this included in these kits and indeed is it a better route than piggy back electronics? Alex
Thunder, You'll need to pay the same again in labour for fitting it. For a single turbo you would ideally need a replacement ECU. US fuel is rated as MON not RON so 92 there is about 98 here I believe. But I think you know that, just thought I'd clarify. Have a look at the sound peformance kits...they too are very nice. The SP57 seems to be a very good all rounder. VFM??? Its worth what ever you are willing to pay for it! Just don't loose sight of all the other related costs of going single. I would be interested in knowing is how much a car with a single turbo costs to insure. Everyone I know of with single/big twins has a garage/dealer policy or access to their company car scheme. ...anyone ?

Alex
Yeah its inclusive of all the but you need to physically attach the turbo system to your car...nothing more.
tDR
Does the $1,250 they budget for installation and setup not cover this?
Adam W
You'll also need a clutch upgrade, an IC upgrade, and a FUEL SYSTEM! If I were in the position to contemplate a singled MkIV, I'd go for a PHR stage 1 turbo kit and stage 1 fuel system or similar (I think Garage Advance and Sound Performance also do comprehensive kits). Standalone ECU also highly recommended but people have had decent results with SAFC's etc in the states - personally I'd spend the extra on a Motech or maybe an AEM and do it properly.
