Think i may of asked this a while ago but did a seach and nothing came up. I have a cable modem from wanadoo who supply my broadband. I have bought the PS2 online thingy from game but am not sure how to connect it? the cable coming from the PS2 does not fit into the modem anywhere. Will take a pic of the cable and the modem if it helps. Any ideas? Maybe i need a router?

You probably have a USB modem - in which case you're a bit buggered.

You need an RJ45 connector to go in the back of the PS2, so a new cable modem I'm afraid.

Unless you can get your PC running as a gateway via a cross over cable?

I tried this, and the PS2 didn't seem to happy about not having a direct connection.

Your best thing to do....

Leave the modem connected to your PC...

Go get a RJ45 Crossover lead which will plug into the PS2 and the PC (I'm assuming you have a network card in the Pc, if not buy one.. they are 10 quid)

Then use internet connection sharing on Windows XP

If it plugs into the ADSL...are you adverse to spending a bit of cash???

If not I would recommend something like this

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=5822976151&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=59951

It would solve all your problems and allow you to connect multiple machines to your internet connection

I wouldn't recommend wireless to someone that doesn't know what RJ45 is. Wireless can either work nicely first time, or more than likely (in my experience) be far more trouble that it's worth. once it's running it's great. I run wireless from my PC and Laptop. However, using a Wireless game device the PS2 was not happy at all.

Easiest solution is to stay cabled and get one of these : http://www.midlandcomputers.co.uk/default.asp?area=prodview&prodid=3996

We sell them in our shop all the time to people doing this kind of thing.

It will work with all ADSL connections - just login via a web interface to put in your username and password. Your PC and PS2 then get an IP address via DHCP from the router so there should be nothing more to setup!

That sounds pretty easy but im still not understanding. Sorry im just not good with all these connections, ADSL, cable, etc

Would i just plug the modem or the PS2 into the router?

Trig if u can mate, take a pic of the back of the current modem unit you got, so we can all confirm you got ADSL modem.

The router replaces the modem, so you plug the line lead directly into the router , the router then cleverly shares the internet connection to all connection devies, i.e PC, PS2. you plug each device into the back of the router

thats it in simple terms

So the router replaces the modem and you would plug the RJ45 connector from the PS2 into the router?

BINGO ;)

and when setting up the PS2

Yep thats a ADSL modem.

With the router, you put your logon username and password for the adsl into the router so it connects and always stays connected. instead of entering it in the login software you may have on ur pc

from then on, on the PC, you then just double click on internet explorer to go on, you will need a netowrk card in the PC, if you havent already got one

you know the PS2 has that RJ45 on back to connect to the router?

a network card is exactly the Same but for a computer instead.

You have to do some minimal setting up but if you have problems when you bought it all, i can be on end of a phone for ya

So all i need to do is getmeself a router and a network card? how do i know if my pc already has one or not?
