grahamc
If you had a budget of £20K or there abouts, what would you go for? R34 GTR R33 GTR - the likes of the B Racing R33 with 700bhp!! EVO 9 EVO X Subaru 22B M3 E46 Porsche 911 (993) Porsche 911 (996) Other options? Purpose - is everyday fast road car. Will not be driven everyday, but thats the general idea... maybe a little fun on the weekends, track days, weekend trips, etc.

Jake
been in that position many times and its BMW M3 imo.Corrected. On your list the R34 GTR is the only one I'd consider.

grahamc
been in that position many times and its supra imo. Keep going in circles and cannot decide what I want... However, saw a purple supra in Reigate High Street, and it totally put me off supras... It was on here some time ago, but cannot find the link. Weird rear spoiler with holes in it, veilside front, and an absolutely numpty behind the wheel. Corrected. On your list the R34 GTR is the only one I'd consider. Open to other cars, thats just the list I have so far... the r34 for 20k though? or there abouts, R34s are dropping in price quite badly, seen some for less than 20k. RobD
the e46 is stunning ! i'd rather have that m3 than the new concept one just on the looks and curves!

gordy07
I thought about this and my first thought was R34,if you could get a good one for 20 grand, but i would stick with the supe and spend the money on it and i would be happy!
j_jza80
I've just been through this very same dilemma, with a similar budget. Looked and thought about allsorts but i've ended up ordering another Supra with Jurgen.

Bobbeh
Out of that list, the R34. To me its more grown up the Evos/Scoobies and rarer than the rest.
bigbloodyturbo
R34 maybe but definately not an M3. Iused to be a huge bmw fan untill eventually their customer service just p!ssed me off, that and the prices they charge for servicing and parts is absolutely ridiculous. And dont even mention an M car to the parts dept because if you do, you may aswell just bend over a barrel and take yer pants down.
Homer
Had some fun driving a mates R34 GTR last week, but although it was a joy to drive it was built like a piece of crap. Maybe I'm too used to high end German cars, but although fun when pushing it, the rest of the car was a piece of crap It was stunningly disappointing once it came to actually drive the car without the throttle on... it's only then the crappy interior, poorly fitting parts, and general uncomfortable ride start to annoy. For me it'd be an E46 M3, they're well put together, handle well, and pretty cheap to run if you get a local specialist (otherwise you're fooked!) I had an E36 M3 shortly before the supra, it was a nice car and about on par with a stock TT 6spd, but far easier to get the most out of. It was a bit of a leaner car before a BPU TT 6spd
DaveK
I've considered spending about that budget on a daily car for a while, and a 996 is top of the list. I am a bit dubious about their build quality though - you do hear some scary stories. It I decided to get rid of the Supra, then I'd probably keep the 964 and buy a 996 as a runaround. grahamc
I thought about this and my first thought was R34,if you could get a good one for 20 grand, but i would stick with the supe and spend the money on it and i would be happy! Been through modding a supra before, not sure I want to do it again. Out of that list, the R34. To me its more grown up the Evos/Scoobies and rarer than the rest. I would the 22b as the most rare, but yes R34 seems more grown up. Had some fun driving a mates R34 GTR last week, but although it was a joy to drive it was built like a piece of crap. It was a bit of a leaner car before a BPU TT 6spd Been taken out in 600bhp+ r34 before and great fun. In what way were you not happy with the interior of the R34? And the drive off throttle? I did not drive the car, was just in the passenger seat. I really liked the ride from there.... I've considered spending about that budget on a daily car for a while, and a 996 is top of the list. I am a bit dubious about their build quality though - you do hear some scary stories. It I decided to get rid of the Supra, then I'd probably keep the 964 and buy a 996 as a runaround. Nice idea.... can you get a decent 996 for that kind of money though? BTW - I also like the 993 and 964... However I think as an everyday sort of car, 993 would be above the 964. DaveK
Nice idea.... can you get a decent 996 for that kind of money though? BTW - I also like the 993 and 964... However I think as an everyday sort of car, 993 would be above the 964. They made a lot of 996s and as a result, they depreciate like Porsches never have before. You certainly can get early ones for around £20K but I've not been to see any, so can't comment on the quality. But I would expect to be able to find a reasonable one - maybe for £1-2K above that - because there are just so many of them that it's not only the rubbish that is cheap. As an everyday car, the 993 isn't all that different than the 964 - although the styling is quite different, and they are a bit newer. Funnily enough there is a thread on the Porsche forums at the moment where a 964 owner has the chance to buy a brother-in-law's 993 for a bargain price. Although it doesn't apply in this case, one guy commented that he'd sold his 993 and bought two 964s, and he felt they were better value - because you get 90% of a 993 for 70% of the cost. Which made a cerain amount of sense! I like 993s - if I could have afforded one when I bought the 964, I would have. But my tastes have changed and I like the classic shape now - I could afford a 993 but these days prefer the 964. A 996 would tempt me as a daily car - but I would need to drive it, because I get the impression they are a lot less "raw" than the old cars. In your position - if I was tempted by a 911 - I'd definitely look at a few 993s.

Love the look of them, but then I would not want to use it everyday. Will add the 993 and 996 to the list...
ozz
E46 M3 is a very good car tbh I'm pretty much decided to get one of these in Jan. I'll have had my 350z for a year then but I fancy something more luxurious. I doubt I can stretch to the CSL though, they seem to be £5k more than the regular M3 on the same year. Nice though.
