Steve W
Just read old threads [ Phil Wall, Mycroft etc. ] Who's done the 'Partial Change' of ATF fluid on their Soop ? Has the box got a drain PLUG, or did you have to remove/refit the sump-pan ? I'm gonna get some of the Type-IV ATF (not knowing what's in it at present) and don't want to fart about with the cooling pipes. I'd rather do a couple/few partial changes (I realise only a BIT gets changed by draining the sump. IF it's got a plug - piece of cake/pi** etc. IF sump - did you need new gasket ? ? Fat S. eyefi
steve, there is a drain plug on the bottom of the transmission sump. so its piss. the sump doesnt have a gasket as such, its one of them gasket in a tube things. im just about to do a full flush on mine, including a clean strainer. just for the record u dont need to buy a new strainer (quite expensive), it can be cleaned by soaking it in brake disc cleaner then preassure washing it. Steve W
Cheers Mr. EYE, I'm not sure if I'll take the sump down - but if it's got a plug I'll definitely treat it to a couple of 'partials'. Fat S.
HedgehogSandwich adi
hmm i'd go for the full drain if filling with type IV (if you've got £125 spare for the fluid). Although the NEW type IV (make sure you get the new stuff part number 08886-81015) is compatible with all fluids, they do say you will only feel the difference when at least 75% of the fluid is the new stuff. Doing a sump change will do next to nothing. If your car is now a few years old it'd be adviseable to do a complete change anyway, as it prob hasnt been done for a while. I paid £80 i think for a very reputable gearbox specialist to drop the sump, drain everything inc toque converter, new gasket and a general service. All in all i think it was £200 well spent and well worth it for peace of mind. The gearbox is just as complicated as the engine, and should be treated as such. adi
