michael Posted August 28, 2008 Share Posted August 28, 2008 I'm having one of those days where I can't get into the work groove so I was wondering what kinds of interesting things others can see from their desks / work location. Mine is pretty dull, to my left I see a colleague, the top of a cubicle and then the sky through a window, in front another colleague and then to the right a room with a glass wall that contains a giant fridge full of every type of butter / spread package you can currently buy in the supermarkets. Hardly a room with a view It's pretty dull here really, previous companies were a lot more open to the idea of IT types being geeky weirdos that like to dry fruit out on monitors or make robots out of old computer parts etc So what can you see other than your computer? To the right, 5 colleagues on identical desks and then a wall. Behind, 1 colleague on an identical desk and then a wall. However, if I go into the lab, there's actually a window that I can see daylight through (it's frosted, so can literally only see some light), and a window through to the shock and vibe room, which has a HUGE vibrator in it. Front - 2 24" widescreen monitors with a collection of Star Wars miniture figures arranged along the top, 2 model Supras, force feedback wheel, signed Megadeth drum head, Tie Fighter poster, Bodhran, collectors Slipknot box set, A0 colour plotter. jim_supra Posted August 28, 2008 Share Posted August 28, 2008 I can see the main road with lots of cars whizzing by, a tyre fitters with lots of cars not whizzing by so much, the company next door's car park and our storage yard with lots of steel plate and box section. michael Posted August 28, 2008 Author Share Posted August 28, 2008 I'm impressed by how many of you manage to work from home - I'm supposed to for at least 3 days a week but they won't give me the equipment I want so I end up coming in to annoy them. If I stay home I can't get anything done and they can't get hold of me so it's fairly unproductive. Having said this even with the tools for the job I suspect I'd end up doing more interesting things like counting blades of grass or making scale models of sandwiches I've enjoyed in my lifetime. I pop into the office to see if my German boss has anything for me to do and if not I leg it home and ponce around in the Supe, then the motorbike, then go off for a 35 mile pedal and later a 9 mile run. Lukeyboy2k Posted August 28, 2008 Share Posted August 28, 2008 I spend the majority of my working time sitting at my desk (although sometimes I wander around the warehouse for a bit, or "do stuff" in the laboratory.) Sitting directly opposite me is my immediate boss who is a bloke, and is Australian. Behind him is a "world clock", but most of the times are set to BST , and there are samples of our entire professional product range on a shelf. To my direct left sits my MD who is a charming sixty-something year old lady from Yorkshire who's always very engrossed in her work so doesn't realise I'm on here most of the time. Sitting opposite her is another colleague - 35 year old really tall chick with an hourglass figure, fairly cute. Between these two ladies is a shelf displaying our entire retail product range. Sitting between my immediate boss and the 35 Y/O chick is our intern student doing a one year placement. She's really, really, really cute. I suppose I best not s**t where I work though. To my right is a small kitchenette/meeting room with a window exhibiting a bright orange wall (some storage depot thing). In the far off distance in front of me is another window where I can see a tree blowing in the breeze and about another 10 or so sales people (all women apart from one - some are Ok to look at). Directly behind me sit two ladies who work in accounts, nice enough but nearing retirement. Directly behind them sit the two marketing girls Behind them is a huge window giving views of the car park and the A4. On my desk are loads of pieces of artwork, packaging components and pots of goo. Coffee table, plant, mobile, fireplace, Wii, random ornaments, 6ft fish tank with tropical's in, 5 ft vivarium with albino boa, recliner sofas, wii fit balance board, some shoes, some dvd's, my decks, air con unit...
