The TRD LSD for the Supra certainly isn't a 2-way... but that might be different for the Aristo.

Very nice, that engine bay is filthy though! :D

We had this conversation on another thread I'm sure - they are 2-Way on the Supra. I posted spec sheets last time showing they are 2-Way on FR cars like the Supra and 1.5-Way on FF cars like the Vitz.

Lovely car this.... wasn't Yoshi's previously was it as I remember his was written off following a run in with some Armco in the wet?

Would be a brilliant cruiser!

Cheers,

Brian.

I believe that was the thread, but as I said, I'm sure I remember Chris saying that they weren't. Can you find the thread?

^^ Just found it - it was a diff thread by Jamie P unsurprisingly :Pling: :D about Kaaz LSD's :taped:

Good find.

I have stripped at least 3 new TRD JZA80 LSDs and the ramp angles are definitely biased to less than 50 / 50 torque transfer, power on / power off. Without measuring them I'd say 1.5. I do fiddle with a LOT of LSD's, so I am pretty sure I am correct here :)

I think that's more to do with Chris's use of the 1.5-way and 2-way terms being different from most (he admitted he doesn't like the terms himself).

From TRD's / Toyota's own sales blurb on their LSD's:

The TRD mechanical LSD is 1.5-way selective, and can optionally be switched over to a 2-way without any additional parts. (It can only be 1.5-way on Vitz models and 2-way on FR vehicles.)

With the 1.5-way, the LSD functions most during acceleration, and is weaker when not accelerating. (The 1.5-way is designed for novices, since vehicle control becomes more difficult when the engine is used to brake.)

With the 2-way, the LSD functions when not accelerating as well, providing excellent vehicle control under a variety of conditions.

Because the limited slip capacity is provided using a number of clutch plates, it exhibits a direct, reliable LSD effect.
