hard starting after hard run

hey guys, hope you can help me out.

I'm experiencing hard starting problems with my Supra after I've run it hard. It normally needs an hour or so to cool down before it will start up again. It got me stranded already at a gas station 2 km away from home. I had to get a tow truck and bring it to my shop. Kinda pissed me off (and at the same time made me breathe a sigh of relief) when after the two truck dropped it off my shop, my supra started with just one click!

My friend / mechanic / tuner took a look at it. BNEW ignition coils, BNEW SARD 800cc injectors and BNEW plugs. Fuel pump is new and the battery is also new. He feels that it's the igniter which is a 12 year old part. Another friend / mechanic / tuner whom I talked to feels the same, that it's the igniter that's on its way.

What do you guys think?

Hey thanks for taking the time to read through my post.

Yup the battery is relatively new, less than a year old. There's a life indicator in the battery, it's still color green so the battery should be ok.

When I try starting the car, you hear the usual whirring noise from the starter and feel the engine vibrate the way it normally does when you are in the process of starting a Supra. When it finally does start after an hour of letting it cool down, there's this feeling that the engine was a bit flooded with fuel and a light black smoke comes out of the exhaust, as if the Supra cleared it's throat. This gives some support to the theory that it's the ignition system that's the problem.

It just doesn't seem to want to "follow through" and start running properly even after I try starting it 6 consecutive times when the engine's still hot.

I'm getting fed up though, feels like I'm being hostaged by my own car hahahaha! Will probably order all the ignition system components pretty soon: igniter, efi computer and crank position sensor. It's overkill but it is a 12 year old car. Coils are brand new, less than a month old. But despite that, I would like to get to the bottom of this and find out more info so I hope this thread gets longer with more theories and ideas. :)

When it's running, there's absolutely zero problems with the car. Power is fantastic, hanging on against Porsche Turbos and Ferraris plus other tuned Jap cars.

Wow that's new. Ok so assuming it's vapor lock, what do I do about it?

FYI my car has used to have the PHR fuel system kit with twin Walbros and twin-in 6AN lines. I removed the second Walbro and second 6AN line since I'm back to a stock engine w/ BPU++. Dunno if this makes this fuelvapor lock issue worse or not.

Have an E-Manage Ultimate installed. I'm sure tuning isn't a problem since we checked on it 3x already.

Also ordering bnew ignition and computer relays just to make sure everything on the ignition side is sorted out.

Weird thing is that the problem manifested itself again this weekend. Luckily I was already in my car shop. My tuner / friend test drove it and came back really pleased with the car. As i was leaving, I cranked the engine and it just didn't want to start. We took out the coils and there was electricity. The injectors were also spraying fuel. Now I'm thinking its the crank position sensor or the temperature sensor that need to be checked but I will still install all the parts I ordered for peace of mind.

Any other tips? Ideas? Hunches? thanks guys, cheers!

we seem to have sorted this problem out already, thank goodness!

The injectors' settings were wrong from start-up, like the injector log hours were off. My tuner didn't notice it until he got stranded driving the car around hahahahahaha! Good thing he had his laptop plugged into the e-manage and saw it immediately.

Also tunred out that I was lacking a couple of negative ground wires. My battery is at the boot and the electricin simply body grounded the car. I installed a grounding kit and wired everything major directly to the terminal of the battery. Seems better now, fingers crossed :)

Although I still have on order almost a thousand bucks worth of ignition and fulleing related oem toyota components..... ulp!!!
