Branners
I work for a conference and meeting company and if we get marker pen on the projector screen we basically have to scrap it. It will never come completely clean as they are coated in a special substance to help the projected image work better. We have around 60 screens so its a continual worry. Chris-B
you could try rubbing alcohol, might be a risk through as it could damage the protective layer on the lens. Try a photography forum, surely someone on there would have knowledge of this sort of thing

Scott
Ok heres a little trick if its permanant marker. Take a dry wipe marker, and draw all over the permanant marker stain. I don't know what the chemical is in the dry wipe markers but it will remove permanant with little fuss. I found this out by accident one day messing around with a dry wipe board. If it works the way i think it should you should be able to remove the dry wipe simply by wiping it off. Repeat as neccessary until all the permanant marker is off. If its not permanant then alcohol should do the trick but i don't know about the protective layer.

Dazzi
Surgical spirit. Used that on the most stubborn pen marks. Not sure about a projector screen though (try in a small area first?)

JamesG
Give the screen back to your mate and get him to clean it. If he fixes it, job done. Otherwise he can buy you a new one.

chilli
What a stupid thing to do, some projector screens are not cheap either (not sure what type you have). I'd get your "mate" to get it fixed or replaced!
