caliAl
I’ve just brought myself a new gaming rig but I’m having a few troubles finding a decent computer which suits my needs. What I’m after is a desk that can hold a 24” monitor and also has a decent space for keyboard and large gaming mouse mat. Most the desks I’ve seen have a sliding out keyboard and mice tray which don’t have the space for the mouse mat. The desk can be no wider than 130cm I would be most grateful if anyone has any recommendations and could post any pictures of your desks and rigs. Cheers

carl0s
I am also hunting for a desk. I have spent about 50 hours on the Internet and visited about 15 shops so far. I am looking for an Oak or maybe Pine corner unit with filing draw and stuff.

Corner units are not common and best sourced bespoke I think.

I've only looked in 2 shops and a few hours online, but have found nothing. I found one desk which looks great but is just to big. http://www.homeofficeworld.co.uk/supersize/images/big/TWS-FY-F9273.jpg
carl0s
Yeah. The problem seems to be just like Andy said.. most are straight units rather than corner units. I've seen some nice Oak corner units, and pine ones too. Oak are between £330 and £400 for the desk alone, and £600 for desk with additional drawer/filing unit, pine is between £125 and £200 for the desk alone. Unfortunately those prices are about right wherever you go mate. I have just spotted that oakfurnitureland have a good sale on though. Edit: Don't bother bud. marbleapple
There is a company called Furniture Exchange which specialises in new or nearly new office furniture. I got a huge new desk for about £120.
Ewen
I'm getting a desk from Ikea, after a lot of web searching. May be worth a look for you guys ? This is what Ive gone for, in oak veneer. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00089262 They have quite a selection of computer desks. SteamAhead
Don't go there on the computer desk hunting, grrrr!! Over the years I've bought many desk's, but never been that happy with them. So a few weeks ago I thought; sod it I'll make my own. Measured up, popped over to local DIY store to purchase some bits, bing bang boom, few hours later one desk made to order If anyone is interested, I'll post a couple of pics up. It's nothing fancy, but it's ideal for my needs (and goes with the bedroom furniture after it was varnished) Trust me, it's the only way of getting what you're after (and pretty cheap) Jim
Konrad
Just make a project of one, go to B&Q, choose material, then ask them to cut it to size. Get some self tapping bolts/screws and there you go Edit: Haha, i just spotted today, that Jim wrote the same at the time I was composing my message

Amanda says I should try to make something, but I'm concerned I wouldn't be able to make nice edge bevels or whatever. Am interested in your pics though! Once my internet at home is working again (my sky broadband went down last night grrrr!!!) I'll post some pics up for you. As I say, it's nothing great (I'm no carpenter) but it's ideal for my needs, and keeps the other half happy due to the colour matching with the rest of our furniture. Faye
If you know anyone with a Costco card then they do some fantastic desks for a very good price, ours was about £80, and is extremely solid
Pot
If you want to save a bit of space on your desktop, consider also getting something like this : http://www.amazon.co.uk/LCD501S-Monitor-Bracket-Mounting-Telescopic/dp/B001BSAFLO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1221506167&sr=8-1 I've just had 2 delivered today for my two 19" monitors, and I'm very happy with them - It's also hinged so you can move your monitor, the only thing I would say is when it's 'straight', it is in your face (Even on a big desk like mine), but there's ways around it... Oh, and it's easier to keep your desk clean I don't think the one I've linked would like having a 24" on it, in fact I know it won't, but there should be alternatives that can handle it I've attached a few pictures so you can see what I've done
JustGav
Hmmm, monitors aren't exactly lined up, that would bug me, not that I'm OCD

Pot
Hmmm, monitors aren't exactly lined up, that would bug me, not that I'm OCD I've got them angled in slightly to suit my viewing preference - But at the moment, the right one dips 2mm below the left one... I'm pretty anal about my monitors, but from those pictures, you've beaten me!... lol
caliAl
What do you guys think is the ideal height for a computer desk?
Rob
750mm.
Wez
I got my desks from Ikea, huge things and approx £35 each Liking those monitor stands, I really should invest in a multi screen setup at home, at work I have four on my desk
johnny g
Ditto Wez. Just trying to use my setup less, I've got a home office, wrap around desk - was expensive but it's almost a self contained work area.
