brilliant picture, does it not come calibrated for this?

It can't. ISF calibration is done per source - basically, the input will vary so the calibration gives the best picture for that. When I had mine calibrated, each source (sky direct to TV, ps3 games, ps3 bluray, sky through surround amp) were calibrated separately. The pic was amazing.

By the way - you don't want the 8th Gen Pioneer (which I've got) - you want the 9th Gen. Saw it at CEDIA - amazing.........

Very nice.

A couple of years ago I bought a 42" HD plasma for my lounge at the flat, as it was a huge room, it fitted nicely in there, but now I've moved to a house with a smaller lounge it looks enormous mounted there on the chimney breast!

It now feels like you're right in there with everything! :D

how do you get them calibrated???

You go somewhere like AV Forums where there are qualified ISF calibration engineers. Nothing is free of course - I think I paid around £300. Worth every penny though.

Note that not all sets can be calibrated. PDP428XD can - PDP4280 cannot.

Spot on,

as an example, off AV Forums this is a calibration sheet for the PS3 etc input on the Pioneer which you can do yourself....

If you're using a PS3 via HDMI with this TV, there is a bug that will destroy shadow and highlight details if you have "RGB Full Range" enabled in the PS3's display settings. I won't go into the technical details as to why, but to set up your PS3 properly with this TV, you should go to:

1: Settings > Display Settings > RGB Full Range (HDMI) set it to "Full"

2: Settings > BD/DVD Settings > BD/DVD Video Output Format (HDMI) and change it to "RGB"

3: TV Menu > Option > HDMI Input > Video and change it from "Auto" to "Colour-4"

After a second or two, you should see the image change to a lower contrast, and far more accurate image.

as you see a myriad of settings, for Freeview, X-Box, HTPC different settings again, a bit of faffing about i know but can you complain about the end result.....--->

The settings above can be done to the 4280 as well - ISF calibration is more than that (it was quite fascinating to watch actually).

I used the AV Forums settings before getting it ISF calibrated - and to be honest, I was dubious I would see much difference. But it made a very noticeable difference, especially to dark scenes.
