HID info

Yep. I've done the search.

I've got two sets of hids.

Both don't work. I've gone to meets. People have hids installed, no problem.

So why do my two sets not work??

I have no alarms.

I bought an ebay special and a proper set.

Cost so far £150.

As far as I can tell, I need no harnesses. How the heck does everyone get it right.????

You shouldn't need harness to CHECK hids. Just connect ballast to light connector, leave bulb in plastic protection surround and switch on the lights. If it's not lightning up, put plug which is coming onto light connector other way around. That's it really...

Ballast should at least give some buzzing sound at start, even if bulb is not catching up. If you want to try harness, you can get one for like 7 pounds from e-bay. What indicating you to "I do not need harness" idea? Harness is really used in first crucial (and most wanted by you) moment, when bulbs are getting a LOT of current to warm up. This phase take around 4 sec and after that they drop down to normal. People installing harnesses, when standard built in car system cannot handle additional power drain and simply do not lit up bulbs :) Harness allow you to drain power staright from battery, bypassing Supras light system (which is kinda delicate and crap).

Some kits won't come with their own harness, they'll just plug straight into the plug which you pull off the stock headlight bulb. This is the same for both left and right headlights. The power comes directly through the existing wiring, some kits recommend that you increase the size of the fuse.

Other kits will come with a harness and one or two relays, the harness is also connected to the plug which you pull off the stock headlight bulb ( you only have to connect it to the left or right headlight) but it's also connected to the battery.

Many thanks guys. :) I'll get on it asap.

If a harness is needed then the manufacturers will supply it free of charge.

I only thought I wouldn't need one because every member I've asked at meets has never used one. Simply plug and play.

Uprating the fuse to 15A would be useful I think.

Odd, mine work fine on the normal bulb connectors without a harness and fire up pretty much straight away. Never needed to uprate any fuses either.

I know. Checked Ivans, b'haves and Pabs and Heckler and no one had the problem or harness. Second set too. Pain in the butt.
