Stock battery for an NA?

Homer

Recommended Posts

I couldn't find info on this in the various battery threads, but I need to know what battery type to buy for an NA. It needs to have the slightly smaller terminals that the imports have. Also any idea on the amp rating it needs?

Most of the threads recommend the Halford HC005, but they are massive, heavy, very expensive, have the wrong size terminals and seem to be far higher power than needed.

The car has no alarm and the insurance policy states it doesn't need one, so there should be little/no current drain when it's idle.

Thanks guys.

It had twin 048 (40Ah) batteries when I got it but they're dead now.

I would have gone for the Halfords one but the HCB005 is nearly £90 and the HC005 £55 :Pling: They seem massively overpowered compared to the stock battery, plus are MUCH heavier. I am trying to find out what they came with from the fatory as the newer import supras I've sen have these small, lightweight one... Halfords do not stock them though.

I would just get something with suitable terminals with resonable cranking amps :D

If you can fire up a single with a redtop 15 then almost any battery should be able to sort it.

What was the amp rating on that one again Wez? Have you had any problems with it going flat while it's resting in the week?

BTW, how much was it?

aha, gotcha. The Ah is very low on that so probably not going to be any use for a road car if short journeys are involved!

Sorry matey misunderstanding me, what I mean is goto halfrauds, find a battery with correct size terminals and resonable Ah, the redtop was just an example to show how little you need to start the thing.

I had to put a battery in mine when I bought it.

I will check for you tomorrow and get a couple of photo's.

It's quite narrow and has the small terminals, cost me about £50 from my local motor factors.

Mine runs my N/A no problem and has a full Cat 1 alarm running off it.

Will sort tomorrow and post tomorrow evening for you Homer;)

Okay Darryl a couple of pics of mine.

It sounds from your decription as if you have the same battery set I do.

I found that most of the small terminal battery's I could find would have the - and + the wrong way round and the cables wouldn't reach when I tried to stretch them over the battery. So something else to check is right:rolleyes:

It's also narrow from back to front.

It says 50 A.H, but I can't see ampage

Hope it helps;)

Thanks Steve, I'll see how I get on with the battery places tomorrow, if I luck-out will give you a shout :)

Make sure the terminals are the right way round Darryl, it's a pain having to take the battery back:blink: and nearly every small terminal battery I came across was the wrong way.

What annoyed me was , I drove round loads of places including proper battery places and as a last ditch attempt to get one without ordering one especially, I went to the little local car parts shop about a mile from me and he had one sat on the shelf.:taped:

I think it only cost me £45 as well, I proberbly spent nearly that in fuel
