Old Car review..

Well i decided to write a quick review of all the car's i've had since i was 17.....(possibly because i've had a few drinks tonight!)

1997-1997: Fiesta 1.1 Pop Plus 1986 £1000: Good little car to start off with. Great on fuel, rubbish on rust. No airbags, no ABS, infact in didn't have a great deal going for it, other than being cheap to run, and not really an issue if you damaged it. As a first car, i accidentally drove it 14 miles one day with the handbrake on. - Only make that mistake once.

1997-1998: Astra 1.3GL 1985 £950: One of my favourite cars, i manged 45k in this in under a year. Didn't have many issues other than the clutch, driveshaft, rust, exhaust, petrol line - ok, more than a few problems. But still it was remarkably fast for a 1.3, and served it's purpose. It went even quicker when i added some go fast stripes.

1998-1998: Cavelier 1.8 1996 £3,500: Horrible, rust machine that cost me quite a bit in the first (and only) 3 months of owning it. It went well, but i felt like it should of been a rep mobile or a taxi. come to think of it, with 110k on the clock at purchase, it probably was.

1998-1999: Vectra 2.0 CDX 1998 £7,500: Every possible extra, this car was lovely. It had the fake walnut dash that set it off a treat and made it stand out from the rest. On a more serious note, this car was comfortable and cheap to run, apart from the cam shaft and crank shaft sensor that went wrong (£1000). Good runner only sold as purchased new car.

1999-2007: Supra TT J-spec 6sp 1993 £17,500: I loved this car. I spent the equivalent of a morgage on it over 8 years, but was rediculously quick and i knew it. I learnt early on to respect the power, and having driven it in every consievable weather condition knew how to drive it. Why did i sell this again to someone in Sweeden? It handled well, and was by far the quickest thing in a straight line.

2007-2007: Evo FQ-320 2003 £14,500: I hated this car. Cost me £600 a week for 2 months. Don't get me wrong, this was great in in the wet and round roundabouts, but it was just so boring. Everything was done for you. After driving a rear wheel drive car for 8 years and jumping in this, was just a bore. It needed looking after more than a baby, serviceing, tyres, yaw fluid, bla bla bla. hated it, and wouldn't ever buy another unless i lived in Norway, in the winter. Parts very expensive

2007-2008: TVR Cerbera 4.2 v8 1997: I was never too sure on this car, i mean it went well, and pulled like a train. A completly different kind of power over turbo'd car's. the only downside was that every time i drove it, i wasn't too sure if it was it's last. It was a handfull in the wet, but only if you wanted it to be. It wasn't a car that you could just jump in either, you had to check the water/oil and prey it would start. When everything is working, it was fantastic. Parts expensivo.

2008-Current: Ultima Spyder 5.7 v8 1998: it has no roof=you get wet (only under 25mph, prooved). Fantastic looking car, and awsome handling. Brakes not as good as previous cars, and power doesn't seem as refined as the supra/evo. Gear changes aren't as quick due to the sometimes glitchy gearbox selector. This car though would out handle the others i'm sure, but it is very wide, and personnaly i don't think it's as quick as the supra/evo, but i'm still only getting use to it.... Very easy to work on, even for a novice, and parts fairly cheap.

Well there you go, just my opinion on the car's i've had. Now i'm 28, and getting married next year. So the Ultima is the last car i'm allowed :-( for the meantime... Anyone else have any other reviews?

Craig.

And there's me thinking you were probably in your 40s! A pretty good range of cars, and reviews there.

I'll have to have a go at doing mine, but they aren't nearly as exciting as yours, except for the Supra that is! :)

here is my not so great list

2004-2005 fiesta sx 1.1 1991 £0: My first car was a hand me down which was reliable apart from the times i broke the gear box mount, engine mount, drive shaft and gear box. Then learnt not to drive like a idiot and not to abuse the car as it doesnt like it, repairs cost more than the car.

2005-2007 fiesta zetec 1.25 16v £2500: This wasnt a bad car had lots of fun with it nippy aswell didnt cause much trouble at all apart from a thermostat. I also learnt not abuse the car but mounts and gearbox proved to be stronger as i did do a few reverse to 1st burnt outs as it was the only way possible to do a burnout.

2007-present Supra tt j-spec auto £6000: The first rwd car ive had and been very cautious as its a big step up from a fiesta. Car is bpu and puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it and have had a few good races aswell. I plan on keeping this for a while as its a pleasure to drive.

1971 - 1976 I was on various small m/cs - Suzuki 50cc, Honda C90, CZ 175

1976 Reliant Robin van. Great little plodder as a first car. The rear seats were stripped out and a matress installed for the leisure times. ;)

I had this when I joined up and ended up driving it up to Catterick from Poole after leave one time during my training. Me and my mates had a great time belting round Yorkshire in it. Unfortunately it blew up round Oxford on the way back to Poole.

1976 - 1979 Back to bikes. Yamaha 350, then a Royal Enfield 350 Bullet. The Enfield was great as it only fired it's single piston every other lamppost when in top. :)

1979 - 1979 Had to buy a car 'cos this was the year I married and she wouldn't go on honeymoon on the back of a bike. :(

So I bought a 1956 VW Beetle - it was one year younger than me. Damn thing was smoky as hell and only lasted as long as it took to get back from the honeymoon. Ever tried to do an engine change on a beetle?

I flogged it for scrap to some dodgy guy in Poole and eventually had to explain this when the police came knocking because it had been found untaxed on the side of the M4.

1979 - 1983 Posted to Germany so bought a left-hand drive, metallic green 1.3L Ford Escort MkII. Those were the days of jacked up suspension and Dukes Of Hazzard airhorns. :)

The Escort was a lovely little motor that did us proud until I needed an upgrade to:

1983 - 1983 BMW 320i. These were notoriously tricky in the wet as I found out to my cost exactly two weeks later when I wrote it off. So it was back to the Escort which I hadn't yet sold.

1983 - 1988 Under German insurance laws, the insco has to pay the cost of a new car up to the price of the written off motor. So I settled for a 2.0L V6 Ford Taunus (a German Cortina) in opal-fruit green. Had a few minor problems with this such as water pump etc but the beauty of it was that it was very easy to work on. When I was posted back to UK I sold it on.

1988 - 1992 Ford again. This time a white 2.0L Sierra Estate. Again a doddle to work on when things went wrong, not that much did IIRC. Needed an estate as my Army job then entailed travelling round installing PCs in the whole of Bovington and Lulworth.

1992 - 1998 Gunmetal grey Ford Sierra 1.8L. This was only 6 months old and as close to a new car as I've ever come. It was OK as an everyday family car but when I left the Army I got a company car with the new job so needed to sell up.

1998 - 2000 Purple Ford Mondeo 2.0L. Company car, nuff said.

2000 - 2001 Fiat Brava 1.6. New job, new company car, nuff said.

2001 - 2003 My first dabble with Japanese motors - a grey K reg Mazda Xedos 2.0L V6. Incredibly reliable and responsive compared to all the Fords and I was loathe to get rid. I did however lust after a bigger and faster Mazda.

2003 - 2005 Red P reg Mazda MX6. This was a 2.5L V6 with 165bhp until I blew the engine chasing an RX7. After that it was a 200bhp "monster" because I fitted a JSpec lump. This car was my first foray into modding and it had the lot (as far as MX6's go anyway) - full body kit, big spoiler, cold air intake, bored out fuel banjos, FPR and all the bling I could bolt on. :) Got bored after taking it round Combe in '95 and started looking around for something bigger and better.

2005 - ???? Supra time. :D

Pics of most of them are here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ken.holland/BikesnCars.htm

(don't laugh too loud or you'll wake the neighbours).

1986-87 Fiat X1/9 1.4L It had a targa roof, fake white leather seats and pop up lights  I was 18 after all. Marvellous. Except it was a fiat. £1400 to buy & £1400 to maintain for 10 months.

1987-89 Now some big power- 1.0l metro 1983 A reg, in white It...umm...had a sunroof! And I don't want to talk about the bodykit that I personally sprayed and bolted on. Nor need I mention the white Weller Wheels and the black painted/smeared window tints :taped:

Moving on then and upping the power some more:

1989-95 D reg '86 1.3l metro *will he ever learn?*

1995-96 MK3 Supra 3.0li turbo. 6 years old, 30000 miles F Reg, Red with blue leather seats. Immaculate.

I wrote it off after 11 months :bang: What a tw@t! :donkey:

1996-2000 MK3 Supra 3.0li turbo. 85000 miles, Red with tan leather. Good car, but not as nice as previous one.

2000-2004 2.0l Renault 21 Monaco in Brown with the most comfortable seats in the world. It was known as the Flying Turd. (Although the flying part was not true) amazing reliabilty. 196,000 miles in total before some kind youths set fire to it in Edgware.

I really liked that car actually :(

2000-present MK4 Supe 6sp TT. By far the best car I've ever owned. Apparently you can read all about them on some forum. Only went BPU a few months back- Hello! Where have I been?:D

2007-present 1.7tdi Astra -R reg, 50mpg. Useful runaround costing 700 sheets. Worth every penny. ;)

1999-2003 Rover Metro 1.1S 1993. A good 1st car. British Racing Green, rear spoiler (factory, not retro-fitted), red seat belts. Cheap to run, 50mpg. What more could I ask for? :D It had 30k miles on it when I bought it, and 150k miles when it was written off when someone drove into the back of it. It was on its last legs anyway, it had trouble starting every time it rained.

2003-current Rover Metro 1.1 1993. Similar to above, but without the sporty trim and 1 less gear. Had head gasket failure which I fixed myself (and taught myself a lot about engines in the process). Starting to show the same "allergic to rain" symptoms as my other metro.

2003-current Supra SZ 1994.

2004-2006: Peugeot 106 1.1 injection. (2000) This was my first car after passing my test. It was Navy Blue, X reg, and i was into my boy racer days. I put a rediculous huge exhaust on it, 15'' Wolfrace alloys and i treated it badly.

I got 116 mph out of a 1.1 engine, i thought that was very impressive. It had a nice interior with blue dials. I then put lexus lights phase 2,

didnt like them so i put clear lights on it. Then, one night, going round a roundabout, no more than 20 mph, a car cut me up,i hit the brakes and because i was so inexperienced, i lost the back end and hit a lampost. End of car. However, my tyres were replaced the day before and i believe that they were over pressurised and that what caused the accident.

2006-2007: Toyota Supra (1994) n/a 5 speed manual. This was an excellent sports car, handled like a dream, looks great, drives well but learnt how to drive very quickly! She taught me some valuable lessons, i then joined this club forum, i have met some great people and friends on here too.

After driving her for a while, i decided that i wanted an upgrade, i went looking for a late model facelift Supra TT... :-D

2007-Present: (1998) 6 speed manual TT. I went looking for a nice TT, facelift model and i found one! She was a white modified 1998 manual 6 speed and looks soooo nice! So after some looking around, i decided to buy her. It has been a love-hate relationship to start with as i had nothing but problems! Touch wood, it is all starting to come together now, and i love her more than ever - recaro seats, CF dash and CF interior,

half BPU, Bodykit, Volk TE37's and goes like Stink!

Im so glad i bought this Supra, now that i look on the market, i couldnt of wished for a better Supra t meet my requirements...

Right well here's mine;

2002-2003: 1994 Volkswagen Golf 1.4 Ryder. Paid £2250.

My first car, great fun to drive and very reliable was a bit different to the usual Nova's and 205's etc. that were being bought as first cars. Had big plans for it but then decide I wanted to move up the car ladder a bit instead.

2003-Present; 1992 Mk3 Supra NA. Paid £4500

My first Supra!! Bought it and collected it on my 20th Birthday, a good present to myself!! She was completely standard, had 60k on the clock and was immaculate, and I vowed to keep her that way. She drove great, sounded great and above all looked superb. I eventually suffered the miss fortune of head gasket failure (which is a MK3 owners right of passage) but apart from that was faultless. When it came to sell her I decided I couldn't so I kept her and now with them becoming rarer I don't think I ever will sell her.

2004-2005; 1993 MR2 Turbo. Paid £2500.

My first venture in to the world of Turbo's. Such a fun little car, lots of power on tap, great handling although a little twitchy in the wet. Again Very reliable, it's a Toyota after all, the only thing that went wrong bar the usual wear and tear items was a rad pipe. She was easy to maintain and relatively cheap to get parts for. The only downside was that damn Toyota red paint. If i didn't keep on top of polishing the paint she was pink! I would have one again.

2005 - Present; MK4 Supra NA Aerotop. Paid £7000.

I now had the car I'd always wanted and everything was right with the world. Beautiful looking, great sounding and a dream to drive. I kind of caught the modifying bug with this car and began a slowly adding bits to her. After a couple of years I decide I wanted more power though so rather than sell her I decided to put a TT engine in, which made her feel like a different car! We've been through a lot together me and the Supra, both good and bad, including quite a few memorable road trips and my mishap at the Nurburgring (all better now) It will be a sad day when (or if) I say goodbye to her.

Nov 02 - Feb 04. 1995 Mini Sprit 1.3i

Fantastic little car, went round courners like it was on rails! Nippy in town and a lot quicker than most of my mates lardy 1.0 fords. Down side bugger all boot space and had a patch of rust.

Feb 04 - Jun 05 1992 Toyota MR2 GT T-bar UK spec

Bit of a jump up from a mini but good fun, went well and looked the part, down side was it was a lemon! Headgasket and cylinder head went in 2 weeks costing me £800 (and that was with a discout). After that the main cooling pipe burst and took out the heater matrix so fixed it up and sold it on.

Aug 05 - March 07. 1993 Toyota Supra SZ 5 Speed

Had the jap bug now and the supra was the car to have. Wanted one since the old GT3 intro. She ran very well and turned a lot of heads. I just wanted more power tho

March 07 - Jul 08 1995 Toyota Supra RZ 6 Speed

Wow the power when BPU was fantastic the looks were amazing and the modding bug had me by the horn! Spent a large sum doing her up and was pleased with the end resalt but just wanted a change. Sadly the supra didnt make me go wow when I got in it. Plus it was well suited to B roads and was more of a cruiser than the all out sports car I craved for.

Jan 08 - Present 1995 Nissan Micra Wave (yeah its a microwave)

Um it has 4 wheels and is good on fuel. Plus will be my girlfriends first car so cant complain.

Jul 08 - Present 2000 TVR Tuscan 4.0l Speed Six

Has got to be the most insane car I have owned, the interior is fab the noise sends a shiver up your spine and the instant acceleration is fantastic. Certanly not as good as the supra for long distance and is no way a grand tourer and as far as motorway blasts go not as strong, but for blasting down B roads with the roof off and the sun shining (think thats happend once this year) its in another league. Plus I have to say it is the best handling car I have driven.

Sure I have done something like this before but am bored and working my notice :)

Jan 1997 - Aug 97 - Ausin Allegro 1.3 Super - Paid £450

Pea green and immaculate condition. One owner from new and only 33k on the clock. Unfortunately the excitement of passing my test and the fact that I had free roam of the works car park at night took it's toll on the car. I basically just wanted this car to go as fast as it could (poor little thng). Very comfy seats is my overriding memory of it.

Aug 1997 - May 1998 - Ford Escort 1.3 ghia - Paid £1200

Grey and a pile of crap. Hated it.

May 1998 - Sept 1999 - Audi 90 2.3 20v - paid £3800

Met my wife when I had this car and thought that having a nice car would ensure some backseat action on the way home from the cinema on our first date. It Didn't, Vic just asked what the hell we were doing stopping in a field in the middle of know where in pitch black...... DOH!

Loved it at first but then 4th went on the auto box and spent a large amount of time trying to get it sorted through warranty etc.

Sept 1999 - Feb 2003 - 1989 Honda CRX 1.6 16v in Rio Red - Paid £3k

Loved every minute of owning this car and would love to have one of these again but in VTEC mode. Never let me down.

Feb 2003 - Mar 2004 - Brand new Honda Civic Type R Anniversary edition in Milano red. Paid £16k

My one and only new car. Loved it. Had my little lad the following year and we thought that there was too little room for all the baby stuff. Love the gear stick location.

May 2005 - Jan 2006 - Toyota MR2 Turbo in black - Paid 4.5k

Nippy car but had issues and car was constantly in the garage :(

Jan 2006 - Dec 2007 - 1995 BMW 328i touring - Paid 4k

AKA Bobby Beemer. Great car. Also my little lads favourite car as he grew up sitting behind the wheel of it "having a nittle drive" whilst I cleaned it and the Supra(s).

Mar 2006 - Cannot remember when Vicki sold it. - 1995 NA Supra Manual 5 speed in Red. Paid 4.8k from Mad Matt on the forum.

My first Supra. Ridiculously low, to the point that I could not turn down certain roads due to the camber of the road and scraping of the front bumper. Loved the sound but quickly decided that i needed a TT. So wife inherited it, before it was sold to Linda (AKA Turbonut) on here.

Oct 2006 - Nov 2007ish - Silver 1995 RZ TT manual (to start with). Paid 10.5k

Bought via Jurgen. Loved this car more than any other and spent far too much in the first year of ownership. Amongst many other upgrades I changed the brakes and had a full respray. Still would consider buying this back. Jimo Jameso now owns him

Apr 2007 - Current - White 2003 DC5 Integra Type R - Paid 11k

Was Vickis car before it came over to me. Great car and probably the best all rounder out of all my cars. Practical, pretty economical, great handling, ok in a straight line and sounds great. Love it and want to keep it forever.

Not all in that order though!!!

In addition, I have also had a Suzuki Vitara (bought for Jodie), a Gen 4 Celica Auto and a Celica Supra 2.8i - but I never drove these as they were both non-runners.......

Nice to see that they are all in order Andy...:D ;)

No idea of dates! But heres the cars ive owned over 3 years

Citroen Saxo VTR 99bhp

The one behind the quick one, but still 99bhp frw 1.6 for your first car isnt too shabby, was plenty quick enough.

Subaru Impreza Sport 125bhp

The wannabe Turbo, looked like a turbo went like the saxo vtr, but it handled very nciely, my first insight into 4 wheel drive. Awesome

Toyota Supra twin turbo 6 speed 300bhp

What can i say, loved this car why did i sell it! very quick, scary stuff in the wet!

Current car Bmw 530i Sport 231bhp

Luxury barge with a nice bit of power when needed, very comfortable, posh looking, not your usual 20year olds car!

Next car..... Still unsure, sub 5second to 60, great handling and 300bhp ish b road warrior!
